The Friday Diatribe APRIL - I've saved you a seat

Post by Stokesy44 »

Good morning All

I'm still working on the format of the diatribe. Trying to get people involved in the thread so I'm moving more towards posing a question as opposed to posting a method type subject or history.

So the question is, if you could have someone join you for a build session, who would it be? You can choose any real person, alive or dead.

I'll start it off.

I dont think I would go for a military person. I never served, due to health issues (not bone spurs) so building a Hurricane in the presence of a 1940s fighter pilot would be acutely uncomfortable for me. A fireside chat in a comfy country pub would be time much better spent.

I'm going with someone who is a fellow modeler. The actor Henry Cavill

Image

He's really into Warhammer gaming and paints his own figures, the chat would be great as we love modeling and movies. Perfect.

Over to you guys... :th:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

I'm not big into the celebrity culture thing, so here's a proper nerdy answer from me...

I'd really like a few of the regulars to be able to get together and have a build session. So Stokesy, 2kids, bfrd, digger (plus friend) and anyone else that wants to drop in.... I'm not sure we'd get much done but reckon it'd be a riot :)

Oh, and since Stokesy only let me reserve the one chair you'd need to bring your own :D
Cheers, Neil

Hmmm... I did serve so I'd be happy with someone sat beside me who'd served on whatever I'm building. It would be nice to know if I'm building it right and what they/the crew did to personalise their craft if anything.
Mind you - I wouldn't be averse to having someone like Claudia Christian sat beside me either....

There's a common theme developing on this thread. Whilst we would like to share the bench with well known people who model or people who have served on the subject, we also would not be averse to the odd supermodel or stunning actress attending! :jd:

What does that say about us I wonder?

Wouldn't that be fun. We would get absolutely nothing accomplished but it would be a blast!
Perhaps we need a group zoom conference or something like they used to do on the Friday Night Show (before it got to be too much work and snarkiness)

Wow, not even confident on where to start after all of these comments. I guess our success will of this up partnership would require some mutual admiration and respect. Now that could be measured in many different ways ways (smile)…

        Interesting topic.
I agree with sitting down with these internet friends and modelling.
One of my health goals is to go spend some time in Texas with a most excellent friend when I am able.

I would like to sit and chat with Adam Savage from Mythbuster fame.
I have watched a number of his videos starting during covid and after.
We are the same age and share many interests with types of hobbies; me on a much smaller scale mind you.
I was going to go see him at a 'Con' in Vancouver but chickened out as it would have been a $275 ticket for the S show then $75 more for a photo plus handshake with him.
Not going to make some deep connection with him there with thousands of others asking his time as well. So I didn't do it.

I would like to finish the rest of Jacque Villeneuve's race cars and sit down and show him them and hear his stories. His dad was my childhood hero until he wasn't.

I don't have a person of history or fame in my head at the moment. Might think about that. I strongly believe in the old saying:
"never meet your hero's for they shall be sure to disappoint you" ie everyone is human with their own faults not likely to live up to your image of them.

I am not going to post a pic of Sydney Sweeney, though I would very much like to sit down and talk shop with her as she has restored a classic Mustang and a Ford Bronco
Like to see if she is just a bubble head ditz or if there is intelligence and maturity inside that beautiful exterior.

        Oh what the hell
