Tamiya Tyrrell P34 1977 Monaco gp 1/20

After a couple of months off I am ready to start my next kit. This time I have chosen to do the Tamiya Tyrrell P34 from the 1977 Monaco gp.



Today I primed all the parts up using Ultimate modelling products white primer. Now this is done it ready to start properly next weekend once my remaining paint arrives as well as tamiya liquid cement which I’m trying out for the first time as i usually use Humbrol liquid cement.

This weekend it was the start of building up the engine.

First I built up the head of the engine as all this part was all to be painted in Revell silver 90.




I then sprayed up and painted on all the engine auxiliaries needed for the the next step in Revell black gloss, Revell black semi Matt, Revell semi Matt red as well as a piece in Molotov chrome.


Then it was onto the build up stage. I had to thread the wires trough one piece and then it was a matter of just attaching it to the main engine head.




Next it was time to build up the transmission and rear axles.
The first thing was to build up the transmission as this was to be painted In Revell 78 tank grey.


Then I built up the rear brakes and axles.



Then I painted all the parts up.


Then it was time to attach these parts together.

Nice work. This should be a great looking car when you're finished

Of all the Tamiya race cars I see this one come up fairly often and I'm always drawn to it.

Today it was on to fitting the transmission and exhaust pipes.

First i painted up the exhaust system in black.


Then it was onto attaching these to the engine as well as the two black pipes. This was quite a hard step to complete as lining the pipes up was hard but got there in the end.


It was at this point I realised I accidentally stuck the top of the engine the wrong way around so I had to remove these parts and reattach the correct way and then attach the wire from the first step.


Then it was onto building the transmission up and painting it. Then attaching it to the engine this was also quite hard as there was a lot of pipes and parts that needed to line up. Due to this I didn’t get as much done today as I was expecting.

Completed a little bit more today.

First I started to build up the rear bulkhead. I stated with attaching all the parts that needed to be painting silver then I painted all the the other parts needed to build up.



Then it was to attach engine to the bulk head.

One of the neatest cars of the era in my opinion, and one of the coolest eras of F1. Back in a time when most factories chased their own engineering ideas and you could tell the different makes from a distance and regardless of sponsors.

Nice work so far, looking forward to more updates.

Today I got on with a little bit more.

First it was time to build up the front suspension. I thought I had taken some more photos of this but must of forgot.



Then it was onto painting the main body. First I masked off all the sections that needed to be painted blue so I could paint the silver for the cockpit and wheel liners as well as the black front wing base. Once this was all dry I masked this off and painted the blue. In the week once this is all dry and cured I will cover this in clear gloss ready to carry on next weekend.

Completed some more this weekend not much left.

First I removed all the masking tape from the body.



Then I built up the radiators and painted the next section of parts



Then I attached the radiators to the body and connected the pipes from an earlier step



Then it was time to attach the front suspension which I completed in an earlier step.


Then it was time to add a few parts to the body including the roll protection and dashboard holder. And then attached the body to the base and engine



Then I built the rear wing and painted all the remaining parts.


Then I fitted the transfers for the clocks. Annoyingy I lost one has they were very small so had to just paint one black. I then attached the steering wheel and clocks.


I then placed the seat in this isn’t currently glued as the driver still need adding.



Then I had to build the throttle body and attach this to the engine.


Then I had to build up and attach the rear wing lower section.

That's coming together really well. I can't wait to see the finished result.

They're fiddly these little engines with all the wiring.

You're getting there, slowly but surely.

Finally completed today.

First thing I did was build up the rear wheels and painted the Goodyear onto the tyres then attached it to the body.



Then it was onto the front wheels. The good year logo on the tyres were quite hard to paint as they were very tiny. I then attached these to the body as well as attaching the front wing corner pieces.



Then it was time to attach the rear wing.



Next I had to build up the driver which I forgot to take photos of. Once this was done it was time to attach the transfers. This was quite hard as the transfers didn’t seem to want to come of the backing paper and when it did they broke apart. So I put them on the best that I could.

Good decal recovery.
A couple blips of Tamiya white paint will cover the tears

Well done for finishing it. Even with the issues I bet it still makes a nice display piece.

That's really nice - well done! I've seen a few of these Tyrrells being built recently - they're very interesting cars.
