I'm going to use the kit from Tamiya too.

A review of the kit from me is not necessary because it is the most well known and Lee made a great video about it.

As you can see, this is a kit that is sold in Germany. All Nazi symbols were cut out or defaced. I'm not going to use the accompanying figures and they get a place in my stash.

According to the SiG rules every completed entry is a winner....
Sanding sticks all round....

So tempted to join in, I have this same kit in my stash also but I think if I choose to "have a go" with you lads it'll be with something smaller or easier.... After all I haven't had a go at armour building yet...

Thanks for the kind words. I wish all those who take part in the SIG, lots of fun!

First, I present to you the Panzerlied (Tank-song), so you know to which I am referring:

First Lieutenant Kurt Wiehle composed the Panzerlied on a train journey to Königsbrück on the 25th of June 1933. The song is still use in the tank regiments of the Bundeswehr. However, some verses are not allowed (And that's a good thing).

1. Ob’s stürmt oder schneit,
Ob die Sonne uns lacht,
Der Tag glühend heiß
Oder eiskalt die Nacht.
Bestaubt sind die Gesichter,
Doch froh ist unser Sinn,
Ist unser Sinn;

My project orientates on the 3rd Verse. Yes, a destroyed Pz II. This is also my first of destroyed tank.
The video is just the first verse of the song. There are videos where the other verses are sung but they seem to nationalistic (brown).

Today is the first November!!!

So then I can start.

I begin with the cannon.
In the Tamiya kit you can see, that the gun-barrel is not a barrel

. With a small drill bit and my dremel I have created a muzzle.

Have therefore only the turret assembled.

Good morning from Wunstorf

Today we want to damage the hull and of course the drive sprocket. For me, it's a strange feeling a to destroy beautiful part deliberately. Hopefully it looks exactly as I imagine afterwards.

At the center cap I cut off two nuts and drilled small holes. These are torn off by the impact of the AP projectile.
The crack was simulated using a cutter. The crown gear was cut a bit with the Dremel (Not yet visible on this photo).

I sanded down the front fender to half, So that they seem not as massive.
The left fender I gently heated with a heat gun and bent into shape. I have simulated the penetration and more damage with the Dremel.

I decided to simulate not a completely destroyed vehicle. I guess with a Pz.II I have distribute all parts loose on a plate

Battle damage always add something else to a model, if you do it right it looks really convincing! I use a soldering gun for shell strikes and it looks pretty nice!

After I broke my hull deliberately I primed all parts with a dark green. Now a satin clear coat layer.
After a drying time of almost five hours, I have covered the complete kit with hairspray.
For extra strong hold in wind and weather.

Nearly.I read in a book that the paint of the vehicles suffered badly in the sun.By bleach and sand in the wind, some vehicles look almost white.
But I do not wanna go so far.I only use a light sand color ... and you?

By a happy coincidence my boss has given me short term holiday.So I have today and tomorrow free for tinkering

His exact choice of words was: Kevin, you have too much overtime. And he sent me home

Panzermeister36 asked me yesterday what camouflage I would like to use.
Now I have given the armor a thin layer of yellow sand. In some places the dark primer seems even through.
This should give my Pz II shadows.Thus, the single-color paint also does not look so boring.

Today I started with the chipping. As I have previously sprayed the whole kit with hair spray, I need now only a little water, a toothpick and a small bristle brush. Gently rub the places where I want to have scratches on the paintwork.

Surely I would have been able to simulate more paint damage to a vehicle of the Afrika Korps but we must not forget, these are Germans! Known for perfectionism and perbenism

. The maintenance units in the Wehrmacht had a good reputation and I think they had reworked larger paint damage. If the supply situation and time has allowed this.

I always thought this was the case, and I guess we have to remember that we take some artistic license to add character to our art.

But I generally agree that less is more.

So before I close my workshop for today, I have quickly built a cross.
The wood is from a tree (very spectacular

).The simulated barbed wire is made of two small wires. I have twisted them.The helmet comes later on top.

looking great, the cross is a really brilliant touch and should be one of many focal points, i like the chipping and the point about German maintenance is a good one although later on things would have been different.

Today I show you some close-ups.
I usually do not like it because you can see all error as precisely.

The turret is pretty much done. I let myself be carried away to other decals. These are from Academy. They are much finer than those from Tamiya. You see it very clearly on Division badge.

German troops gave their vehicles often names. It has been shown the intimate relationship to the material they use.It's still that way. My tank was called ELSA.

I have here two pictures of the battle damage.
On the inside you can see where the bullet has left.A small crack in the hull is also seen. That is the reason why the driver's hatch can not be opened. The hatch jammed! By the heat which is caused by the hit, it came to smoldering fire.

On the external side you can see how the bullet struck against the drive sprocket.The toothed wheel bursts. Screws on the inner cover torn off and the oil runs out.The projectile is deflected and passes through the fender.By the heat the paint gets bubbles and turns black.

Today I have mounted the tracks too.
On the intact side simply pulled over...

The defective side was a little more difficult.I glued the track sections. From roller to roller. That was pretty annoying because it wasn't easy to work with the rubber-band-track...
