What a kit! Great review , thanks. Wonderful bit of history too. It will certainly be a special build.

It looks like Revell are trying to erase the fact that this was first a Matchbox UK model way back in the mists of time. They seem to have done a good job on updating.

Now, to put temptation in your way, there is a whole world of aftermarket for this beastie including grandpa's gun!

Can't wait to see this start

I told my father-in-law I was building the corvette. He served on an aircraft carrier on the Atlantic convoys - he said: "we called them rowing boats with engines, they looked so small"

Rob!!!thanks so much for that link buddy! I even have time to order some of this before I start.
I knew that it was made in the UK... But not which company.
Matchbox... They used to make little toy cars here for kids... We called them dinkys.
Matchbox were the cheaper ones, hot wheels were the best but we couldn't afford those. Haha.

Can you imagine what it looked like from the deck of a corvette when they looked at the floating city that was and aircraft carrier? Not too close boys or she'll swamp us!

You're welcome

Browsing the internet while listening on the radio to this afternoon's footie, I came across this photo stream on Flickr which includes a handful of pictures of HMCS Moose Jaw - including a couple of the ship post fitting with the long fo'c's'le as in your kit.

Link (a real cracker to start!) - once there hover the curser over the photo to get to the buttons to move left or tight in the stream

Thanks for putting this up because this is the first kit I see in the lms every time I walk in and I have never paid much attention to it. Now I will have to have a poke around in the box :)

Nice kit and a great project Michael, wonderful to hear you tell your Grandpa's story :thumb1:

I suppose your deck building experience will be useful for the wooden deck

I think one of the shipbuilders at work may have built this kit, I'll have a chat next time i'm in.
