Airfix 1:72 Supermarine Spitfire Mk IXc

Post by Pedronski »

This is the first real effort I have made to carefully put together and paint a model.

It is the Airfix 1:72 Supermarine Spitfire Mk IXc kit in the north African campaign colours.

I've used Tamiya paints, humbrol liquid poly, no filler and nail files from Sainsbury's. I've been getting my stuff from Hobbycraft. I'm pretty pleased with this effort and I've order some decal setting solutons (microscale seems to be very popular on the YouTube so I've gone for that).

This is the finished paint job...

I hunted down some Pledge Multi Surface Wax at ASDA and this is the result...

Decals Applied.

Here's the latest update where I've applied the decals.

For my fist serious attempt I'm not applying the stencils, just the main decals.

I want to apply a coat of gloss then I'll think about washes/pin wash. But it may have to wait a bit.

The paints used here are:

XF1 Flat Black
XF3 Flat Yellow
XF15 Flat Flesh
XF18 Medium Blue
XF71 Cockpit Green
XF52 Flat Earth
XF60 Dark Yellow
X33 Bronze

The red for the nose was a red acrylic paint from my daughters paint box :-\
I also used a pot of Humbrol 56 Gun Metal from my "A Small Step for Man..." Starter/Diorama kit. for the landing gear and wheels.
