What a coincidence!!!!

Post by ScaleModelling1105 »

So I bought this kit from hobbycraft last weekend:

I was looking through the decal sheet...

And then I was watching 'Weaponology' and the 'bomber' episode tonight:

Hold on! What's that:

They're the same! How cool is that. I knew they modelled them after real aircraft but I've never seen the actual plane itself before. Makes the thought of double maths on a Monday morning at school not seem so bad anymore!

Your right that its a coincidence that the markings in the kit are from a plane you saw, but its very common in modelling. Especially nowadays with modelling companies only having access to restored, and museum aircraft a lot of the time. Even modern aircraft schemes are taken from actual aircraft.

A good example is the new Merlin from Airfix. It includes a scheme with some cool wee nose art which was painted on a real Merlin. Airfix contacted the guy and asked if he could do another drawing of the nose art that could be scaled down to go on the decal sheet.

The original came about after the heli hit a bird which badly dented the nose, the nose was repaired but the Americans who repaired it didn't have the right paint colour (we've all been there) and so the repair was "non-standard" meaning the nose would then be replaced back in the UK anyway. So this guy (goes by Inso on other forums, mainly wargaming ones. I know him as a member of the other forum I am an admin on) got to paint some nose art on the nose! And its now in the Airfix kit.

That is still pretty cool and random that you saw the plane the Revell kit markings were based off though!
