aftermarket track who uses them ,why and what brand

hi there
i was a bit curious when it comes to this subject
i use aftermarket tracks on a fair share of my builds about 75% of them
and my reasons very almost from model to model sometimes its because there are crappy rubberbands in the kit
other times it can be that the links in the kit won't fit i had that problem with several older Dragon kits (all panzer IV chassis)
and in a rare event that i screwed up the track my self had that one happen twice
my self i am a big fan of the friul tracks they are metal tracks
they are working links and they have some weight so you get a natural sagging effect on them
so thats why i wanted to know : who use these tracks aswell why do you use them and from what brand do you usr them

Like you mark i like friul tracks, I think they add a bit more realism and are often easier to put in place than standard kit tracks

Tried modelkasten ones, but nothing beats Friul.

Used fruil track for the first time recently and have bought a set for my next build.

Really great to work with and pretty therapeutic to put together.

like the flyingdutchman i tried modelkasten and altough they go together with eaze they are extremely fragile
and as for mr Guppy where do you find the therapeutic part ?
i don't mind putting them together but the drilling part is not that nice at all (for me atleast)

Friul are brilliant but are stupid expensive. If you can afford them go for it though.

About 40% of my pieces are wearing Friuls If given a choice I'd have them all wearing them.
Friul don't make every type that I needed or they just plain don't exist anymore for others.

The rest are wearing a mixed bag of AFV Club, Panther Plastics, and Out of the box.
There are three that are wearing Modelkasten and I'm soo sorry about that.
They are over engineered heaps of steaming crap.
So are the 3 that are wearing Bronco aftermarkets. Complete Moose Droppings!!!

Yeah I have never used AM tracks. I just used the kit rubber tracks on my 3 armour kits to date. The ones that came with the Tamiya Challenger 2 were great though. They can be glued with plastic cement (so no hot iron needed, or staples!) and they held paint well. The ones in the Trumpeter AS90 were crap, but I am not in a position to buy AM ones.

I had indy link tracks in the Meng AUF1, they were crap. Two part links which needed cutting from the sprue. And they didn't fit together properly so they just fell apart. I eventually got them in place on the vehicle and now I won't touch it!

The Trumpeter Type 99 I am working on has indy link tracks too, but at least they aren't meant to be movable like the Meng ones, so should just glue together. The instructions tell you what sections to make them up in etc, and there is no sag to model on them so should be straightforward.

Ebay is cheaper than the uk shops, a set that would cost £33 delivered from the uk I can often get for £25 delivered from Poland.

Cheapest I've seen them was at Telford at £18 a set, I got a set for my tiran 5 while I was there.

i get them at the scale.model challenge in Veldhoven mostly
because there is a stand from Friul most kits are.placed.im classes (about 3or 4 priceclasses)
and i think the 2 cheaper classes are below the 20 euro.mark and most shop charge you about 25 to.35 euro's for a set so.i buy all the ones i need for a year and whatever is missing in my stash
so i have about 12 sets at the moment mostly panzerIII/IV tracks since i build most vehicles with that chassis but you can find some good deals at most conventions

If i'm not buying them in Veldhoven SMC , I buy mine straight from friul models factory in hungary. €27 per set with €8 deliver cost to the Netherlands.
Thats €35 total and cheaper then most stores.
About 30 ponds that is.

I gota panzer IV lying around here waiting for the d-day gb......... Maybe I go and get some tracks for that to. ...

I use a little of everything. basically, whatever my wallet allows (which isn't that much). The vinyl/ rubber band tracks don't bother me much. Just as long as the detail is present. Aftermarket tracks? I'll get Frui tracks when the prices go down (if ever). Modelkasten has been my AF tracks of choice, with magic tracks coming in at a close second.
