Tutorial on removing raised panel lines?

Post by generalgrog »

Hello friends... I did some internet searching but have failed to find a really good tutorial on how to convert raised panel lines into recessed panel lines . (And rivets)

Can anyone point me to a good tutorial or maybe tell me the best way to tackle this subject?

The way i do it is i use the raised panel lines as a guide and use some dynmo tape has a straight edge and just rescribe over the top of the raised lines 3 or 4 light passes should do it. once the whole model is done i then sand it down lightly and should knock back the raised rivets then i just use a needle in a pin vice the put the rivets back on then another quick sand and and a clean with a toothbrush and water to get dust out of the lines.

Just a quick video i did on rescribing but you should get the gist of it hopefully.

I hope this helps guys

So are you saying you leave the raised panel lines on the model first, then scribe underneath/beside the raised line? I'm just curious if this throws off the panels a bit? Maybe it's such a slight difference it doesn't matter?

I did read another tutorial online where the guy removed the lines and rivets first. Supposedly you can still see the lines and rivets "shadows" and use the remnants of the lines to rescribe over exactly where the original lines were.

I don't think I would have a problem with the rescribing. There are many video tutorials on the scribing technique, just not any I have seen on the best way to remove the original lines.

So it turns out there is quite a few threads on the net after all, on the subject.

No videos I could find, so it looks like I'll just have to experiment myself.

I'm cool with that.

Sorry i didnt get back to you sooner i try and scribe ON TOP of the panel lines if your careful it will take the panel lines off its the way i do it but each of us has our own way im just lazy so i dont sand them all of plus you can run the risk of sanding them of completely i found that out the hard way when i got back into the hobby a couple of years ago but on the last couple of builds i put the dynmo tape next to the panel line and scribe on top of it.

What about the rivets?
Do you sand and re rivet(recessed)?

Anyway, I think the best thing is for me to just get some practice in!!

I've ordered a trumpeter rivet tool, and some scribe guides..

I'll let you know how it goes...maybe I'll even make a video tutorial some day.
