Help with painting nose cones on ww2 aircraft!!!!

Post by ScaleModelling1105 »

Hi guys. I have a couple of german ww2 aircraft kits such as the fw-190a which has a black and white swirl on the nose cone. I was wondering if it's best to brush paint it or carefully mask and spray. I will be spraying the nose cone white as the base coat and then painting the black on top somehow. Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers,

Sometimes there's decals for that, I buy or print them out myself.
In my earlier stages I used a very thin brush and a calm hand ;), although airbrush would look a lot better, it's quite a lot of work masking that.

The only FW190 I have done so far came with the nose swirl as a decal, so not sure how you would paint it, other than a steady hand!

One way is to make a mask draw round the spinner on some masking tape draw the a spiral in it the circle same as on the spinner cut it out there you have a mask. Paint the whole spinner white then apply your mask it's fiddly so just take your time it took me a few gose when I did it then one the mask is in place paint it black and once dry take the mask off and you should have a white swirl.

Hope this helps

I don't know if it helps but i have a DVD by Floyd Werner on making Hasegawa's Bf109G6 and he uses very thin strips of masking tape. He paints the spinner white then has two parellel lines of tape roughly equidistant then uses masking fluid for the white areas then sprays it black.
The point he made is that the spirals weren't always perfect as it was left to the ground crew to paint.
Cheers.
