Was It unusual for Soviet tanks to have camo during WW2? Or did the more expensive tanks like the JSU-152 and the JS-2 often have camouflage?

I don't recall seeing any pics with camo, most are just green or have white wash. The JS seris I see are green and a lot have white air recognition stripes/ markings and seem to be in Berlin, or at least those are the fotos I see a lot of.

But with that said, I bet some may have como, seems like almost anything goes.

I'd say only if the crew in the field applied it. I've seen air ID lines and markings on, but I don't believe I've seen camo.

I don't think their would be time, most soviet armor was built in the factory and shipped off to the battle.

I have just watched a documentary on the Russian campaign, in colour and there were several instances of vehicles having some camo yes.

Yes, Russians did use camo schemes, but not universally. Between 1942-43 there appears to be quite a number of armor units with extensive camo (a chocolate brown over the factory green). Can't say much for 44-45.

As Russ has said... Some units went nuts with the camo (a medium brown over the Russian green in bands or in large irregular splotches) in other units it was verboten. The most extensive use of camo by the Russians was the use of white wash in the winter, all units were required to apply it to their vehicles.
With the almost total absence of a cohesive marking system on the vehicles, combined with the massive number of vehicles built, you could go crazy and paint a T34 in green with brown bands with slogans, then white wash it (depending on the time of year)... and it would probably still be correct.

I have a few T 34s. So will definitely do some camo, what Tamiya color on the brown?

I think I have a NATO brown, brown and a red brown,? Probably a Brown with a drop of red brown or two.
