How would you accent panel lines if painting with Enamels?

Hey,

I want to try painting my T-33 in enamel paint, Humbrol to be specific. If I use enamel paints to do the coats, what kind of paint would I use to do the pin-wash and panel accent lines afterwards? This is for the Honour our Heroes Can. group build, and what I have in mind is a 'shiny new paintjob' as opposed to 'weathered' but I'd still like the panel lines to pop... suggestions?

you can use enamel paint to do washes, just thin them and apply a coat of varnish before.

Thanks! I'm used to using Acrylics so this is quite helpful.

What kind of varnish would be recommended? Clear (glass/matt)? (or Pledge Klear?) Satin?

If your doing a base coat with enamel, you should apply a gloss coat of acrylic (Future). Then you can do washes or whatever with enamels without worry of hurting the underlying paint.

The rule of thumb with enamels is

Filter 10% paint
Wash 25% paint
Streaking 60% paint

As previously mentioned put a coat of something something acrylic down before applying enamels.

I tryed that and the entire base coat fell off!

You must not have put a gloss coat down then.

Same thing happened to me while I was trying some of Mig's J. Streaking effects using thinned enamel over acrylic.

I had applied at least two coats of satin or flat Liquatex (sp) clear acrylic.

I was doing a Stug 3 and while streaking it, the base coat was damaged in places and went all the way down to the plastic.

Since then, I went to Future aka Pledge floor finish, but have read since, that Hardware store Turpentine, what I used and was supposed to be Artists turpentine, but I think it could have been too hot. Not sure, and would like to hear comments.

I have reverted back to my old school ways and streak with oils, no thinner. But I think Mig's method could really work well if it does not eat my paint.

Have you tried using white spirit/enamel thinner instead of turpentine?
