Hi guys!
After finishing GB, SIG and OOB Sd.Kfz 7/1 20mm flakvierling, it's time to get back to my beloved Marder.

So here's a tiny update.... seriously, realy tiny! Some bolds are 0.2mm
I made the barrel lock today. I spent two and a half hour building this (workable!) lock,
Yeah, you heard me... workable... :eeek:

So this is the piece out of the box that need to be re-worked.

Image

After doing some cutting and sanding, I drilled tiny holes in the lock pieces.
This is the re-worked part.

Image

Put the lock together with copper wire, superglue and patience.... a lot of patience...
And a little help from my wife too... she putted a piece of copper wire trough 3 little pieces I had lined up with 2 tweezers.
So a extra hand was needed. Thanks dear Amy :thumb2:

Image

And to prove it's workable, here's the lock in open position...

Image

Next I putted the hinge together that operates the lock from the cabin. I missed one bold as I just see that's missing on this pic, will do that tomorrow.

Image

And here's the barrel lock finished.

Image

In open position. I will build this Marder with the barrel in a closed lock

Image

Image

Dry fitted the barrel for aligning the lock. The gun itself will get a PE upgrade too..

Image

Image

Image

Well, That was a fun evening detailing!
I'm happy with the result, and more PE coming up soon guys :thumb2:

Thanks for tuning in!
:cheers2:

Frans ... You are a modelling God!
That was an amazing piece of scratch modification,
Master class work buddy.... Just freaking marvellous to look at.
This pictures were really well done and show off the work perfectly.
My eyes are dry staring at these.

Thank you very much for that nice compliment Coen. A modelling god... 8-)
I'll be honest to you, had to walk away for a moment to get my eyes straight again.
just sat down on the couch drinking a coffee for a moment...

Thanks again buddy, and don't forget to blink your eyes ones in a while...

Mike's right Frans...... I just spent ages flicking back and forth over the gun locking mechanism and hatch hinge with the missing bolt!!
I am wondering what PE extra you could possibly add to a replacement barrel??
Good luck with the continuing Teeny etch work matey, you are truly a skilled guy with the best eyes on the forum!

Thank you Andy! :D Glad you all like this upgrade so much!

What extra Can I do? Well, the replacement barrel is looking great as it is, but the gun mechanism is getting some PE levers, wheels, bolds, gears etc....
And my eyes? Well.... I'm using a Tamiya head magnifier otherwise I can not see what i'm doing!
Some people ask me to do a video when i'm building with PE but that would be just very boring I think, for I work in absolute silence... I even hold my breath when i'm fiddling with tiny bolds! Not to long tho, would not want to scare my wife when turning blue...
So no vids on PE building just yet...

Thanks again buddy!
:cheers2:

Hello guys!

Small udate....
Progress is slow, upgrading the main gun now. Also done some bits and bobs at the interior.
Still got 3 workable periscopes to make.
Here are some pics. Gun is not finished yet.

And next to my Marder III Ausf.H

Image

Slow progress, but I have to be careful with placing all small parts, especially now when my PE placer died and does not stick anymore. :bash: I think I need another one.....

Thanks for looking!

Thank you! :th:
A pe placer is a photo etch placer.
A small pen with s sticky tip for picking up small parts for easy placement.
But the tip of mine placer is worn and does not stick anymore. .
Maybe I'll give the wax placers from Ultimate a try....
Or maybe Paul And Lee will donate one for tryout....
