My first ever build......

I think I am posting these in the right place, I have embarked on a Afghan diorama project which is my first ever build, at the moment progress is slow and thinking I may have bitten off more than I can chew but I am really enjoying the journey and not really fussed how long it takes as I want it to be just right, so here are some pics of the Jackal so far, it is a work in progress and would appreciate your opinions on how its looking and advice on how it could be improved, it the airfix 1/48 kit, I have not used any photoetch on it as I am a complete novice and that was a step to far for me on my first build. I have added Tamiya 1/48 accessories for the stowage and I have scratch built some of the bits you can see in the pics, the webbing straps and Javelin tube, be good to know what you guys think, I am tough skinned and would appreciate your honesty.
