Martin JRM-1 Mars 1/48 scale

Post by deckape »

Ahoy Fellow modelers
Here is another of my unusual collections that are often modeled, This a scratch built model of the Martin Mars Flying Boat built from blue foam board the plans came from the Martin Museum archives . This flyingboat is often modeled I have never seen any of these modeled before I built this 46 years ago. The Martin Mars was the 747 of the 1940s - 1950s the largest aircraft in the world for its time these wonderful boatsd were stricken from the naval register in late 1956 and they were laying around idol for the scrappers to take over. But Canada forest Industries saved them they purchased all 4 flying boats from the Navy and they are used today as Borate bombers a great airplane she is sometimes I look at her she looks like a oversized Turkey Vulture. I had the privilege to fly in one of these flyingboats in 1951 My Late Father was naval pilot and he flew at the time Martin P5-M Marlins VP-145 Sangley Point Caviti Phillipines being a naval dependent he sent for my mother and my two brothers ,sister and myself to join him. He took off from Alameda Califpornia to Manila Bay Phillipines then we took a naval bus to Caviti where we lived, Again I would love to thank everyone here for your wonderful comments o0n my collections. I am Honored to be here.

I think this is my favorite build of yours Frankie. I remember this youtube post from some time ago.
