F.M. H.P Hampden 1/48

Post by Norman »

Hi All

I am new to this site, been watching the shows on utube so thought i may as well inflict myself on you all

Here is my Fonderie Miniatures 1/48 HP Hampden that i present as my debut contribution,i build 1/48 nowadays and have always loved the Hampden since building the Airfix kit as a small child ( i am now a large child of 61 years) !!!

This kit took me quite a while, in fact in went into and out of the sin bin regularly for over four years as i found it a real challenge, quite happy it is finished now

I used Nato black instead of a full black as i felt it gave more depth, only kit decals are the noseart ones, others were sourced from my spares box, i was about to install tall finflashes when i found a pic of her at a time when she wore the short ones at the time when the black was extended up the fuselage sides, blimey you can get into trouble looking at pics, but as a friend said to me recently he often models the aircraft to represent an era and is not always a specific aircraft at a particular time which he says is easier

It is far from perfect , many things are not quite aligned , incorrect etc etc mainly as i ran out of patience towards the end ( and wanted to finish my new Airfix Javelin) and just continued on what was a breathtaking gallop to get to the finish line, now if Airfix do one you WILL see a grown man cry !!

Hey Norman, I'm really liking the Hampden.

I think you're right about not using 'full' black, to me when flat black is used you end up with one tone that looks different from the rest of the body, the Nato black you've used gives more depth and a slight blueness to the aeroplane that I think makes a big difference.
