How to prime

Post by ludicrusmaximus »

Hi Again,

Another 'duh' newbie question, as I have never done this before. I want to prime my next build but havent a clue as to what to use for this (clear coat or Tamiya colour). Also, do you prime before or after you pre-shade?

Thanks again, and sorry about these questions....

This isn't gospel, others will do it different. You can prime with specific primers, or with normal paint. The idea being to give your next coat something to adhere to. It will also show any areas that still need filling or sanding before you start painting. Personally, I use spray can primers, but if I've ran out, I don't see a problem using a normal grey paint.

Pre-shading is done after priming, otherwise you'd just cover the pre-shade with paint.

Yep, I will start a work in progress thread for the cheapo kit I buy. Just gotta create a photobucket account. I'm still in the dark ages there too ;)
