1/72 or 1/76 Trains and automobiles

I have been looking around and other than hobbyboss, revell and dapol, nobody makes models of trains (that I know of) and is there a company that makes kits of regular civilian automobiles? It seems all the train companies are gone Any ideas would be great

No train models???? There are loads - it's a huge market! What is your fancy (locos, freight or passenger stock, buildings etc) material (plastic, white metal, brass etc), scale (z, n, h0, 00, S, 1, G etc), gauge (standard, narrow, broad), country (UK, USA, Europe) etc etc. Locos tend to be for motorising but a few static models are also available for display - google trumpeter railway models, I think they do a wide range of 1/35 stuff. For a start, for wonderful plastic 00 (1/76) gauge wagon kits, which come with wheels (many model rail kits do not include wheel sets) google Parkside Dundas 00 gauge, these are meant for running but look splendid as display models.

Ok! I'll respond tomorrow, its bedtime! But for starters, here we go...scale/gauge first. British 00 is 4mm to the foot scale or 1/76 running on 16.5mm gauge track. USA and the rest of the world run H0 which is 3.5mm to the ft or 1/87 running on the same 16.5mm gauge track which is accurate for the prototype standard gauge track (UK 00 track is a woeful 2.33mm under scale! - don't get me started!). I do not know of anything in 1/72.
For plastic locos look at kitmaster http://www.kitmaster.org.uk - these were 60s kits but were remoulded by arirfix before being taken on by dapol. Plenty of the Airfix versions turn up on eBay

Revell currently do the American Big Boy (careful if you are googling that) and some german outline stuff in 1/87 and have done others such as the Hudson over the years http://www.revell.com/germany/other/index.html.
I am not aware of any other current plastic kits of locos other than the Knightwing one mentioned above and the Dapol stuff. But in 4mm-1/76 metal (nickel silver , brass or white metal), the worlds your oyster, but will need wheels and motors to complete (eg v expensive) Here's just a few...
