Well, I just need a break from them.. The 'Eileen' version is near enough done but there's still some work to do on 'Gabreski' and I just need to get away from them for a little while, doing something different.. all I see when I look at them is 'work, work and more work'.. :P

Ok, I understand...I was there with the Vamp a week ago when the intake re-build was a pain, so started the SAAB 17...yupp good strategy.
The Condor is staring at me now...whispering from the shelf..."Start me now!" "You can finish the others later..."

Naa have the mojo back now with the bloodsucker and it will be finished in a week.

Small update!

Did some touching up on the overspray...
Image

While drying I prepped the rest of the parts. (seen here un prepped)
Image

Trumpeters alignment pins will build a Wheel where the halves are way off, forcing you to sand away lots of material to get even.
So off they go and manual alignment.
Image

And, Trumpeter, whats up with the nose Wheel!?!? What, no rubber in the middle? WTF!
Ok, putty to fix!
Image
Image

Paint dry and 3-4 Coats of clear on...when i say clear cote I mean this..
Image
Image
Image

Also did some dry brushing in the Wheel bays. Will start the decaling tomorrow.

The Marivox Saab B17 is a very good kit with a bit of tender loving care.. :)

Had this idea I should build all 16 versions offered with the kit, but have decided not to in the end.. but you do get some interesting oiptions!

:th: Coolness those are fine B17s mate!

Yeeah, its a short run Tech kit, so it needs some love but I Think its a nice kit in all its crudeness and simplicity.
With som effort it builds into a really nice Little plane, as You have prooven! :cheers2:

Im done with the interior now, well almost, will post pics tomorrow in the Bomber thread.

I stand corrected! :shifty: (have to lay of the IPA...)
I assumed it was a standard type Wheel, then when Reading your comments looked real Close on my ref. pics and yes the J28B had it to!
Thanks for the heads up guys!!!
Ok, the score on this model is now: Trumpeter 1 Patrick 99
Glad I used putty and not a styrene strip...
:D

Decaling ongoing...
Image

Managed to get all the big ones on so far...they have 5-6 coats of SOL on them now and drying.
The RB decals are ok, the "kronmärken" (roundels) were a Little thick, but the critical ones with lots of transparent film were great! :th:
No silvering at all...
On my way out now to either try to button up the B17 fuse or put on the small stencils on the vamp.

Decals makes such a difference and brings it all to Life! A J28 is emerging...

Hi Fredrik,

Thanks mate! The kit is "so and so", if You care (I did) the air intakes are in need of re-build. OOB there is a quite a big "edge" standing out towards the wing.
The J28 did not have this and havent seen it in any ref pics of other countries FB/MK5 either. Dont know why they molded them like that?
Im by no means a "rivet counter" but they were just to much "in your face" for me so Went the extra mile...
Other than that its an "ok" kit. Fuse/wings nicely detailed with great in scale panel lines and riveting. Other detailing is sparse.
The RB decals were nice, takes some decal solution Before they shrink in, but they take the Micro Sol/Set with no problems at all so You can abuse them untill Your happy. They also held together well when cut in the panel lines.

:cheers2:

Small update (from yesterday, but I apparently for the second time posted when logged out...sigh... )

Rest of the parts prepped and ready for base coat, same as underside, Gunze 307.
Will act as primer also for stuff to get brush painted. Only thing left to spray now is the front bay door, Yellow.

Don't forget I have seen the real things.. albeit the trainer, not the singleseat.. but still! A Vampire is a Vampire is a Vampire.. I saw online that the F10 Museum / Angelholm Aviation Museum has a trainer Vampire displayed now as well, I will have to go there somehow when I get back home at the end of May, beginning of June.. it's not exactly far inbetween Orkelljunga and Angelholm! ;)

That aside, I do appreciate a brilliant looking model when I see one.. :)

Really recommend a visit mate! Its a Lovely Little museum.
The Vamp is now deposited with the museum (not airworthy as of this summer) from LAS, Ljungbyheds Aeronautiska Sällskap.

BRILLIANT PHOTOGRAPHS!!

I used to be a member of the F10 KamratForening, can't remember why I stopped.. it was probably in connection with moving to the UK. It's a few years now since I visted the museum, it sure has changed a bit since then and the shop has stocked up on the models, it seems.. :) :) I will definetely visit it when I come back home.. should you happen to be there at the same time it'd be nice to say 'hello'.. ;) I have a feeling the shop will charge 'Swedish prices' for the model kits though, which I can ill afford..

On a different note, I have finished my P-47's now and will post some photos later, right now I'm having trouble logging in to photobucket though.. :(

But I took the 'Gabreski Special' up to Boxted Airfield (where the original aircraft flew from) earlier today, and got a picture of it on the remnant of the original runway concrete and also on the memorial.. it was VERY windy though so couldn't get as many pictures as I had hoped, for fear of ruining the model.. :P I nearly lost the canopy...

Cool! Just say when and we can meet and chat and visit the museum together, and You should be a member again.
Only 100SEK/Year (9ÂŁ). (You get 10% off in the shop! :D )
Yes Swedish-ish prices but not that bad.
Example, I Think the Hasegawa J35s are 460 SEK = 52€ (-10%=47€)
Same model from eModels about 45£=50€ (+ shipping)
Airfix and Revell are equally cheap everywhere. And the reverse for the short run kits, equally expensive...

The "Jug" looks very very nice mate!! :th:

:th:

Thank you! :) I don't buy the Hasegawa original kits, mainly because I sit on quite a few of the Revell boxes and after market decals! While the Revell kits were still easily available I paid around ÂŁ8 for them, (9 Euro), the Hasegawa kits tend to sell for around ÂŁ40 for a double kit (48 Euro) at the moment, which I find a bit expensive, but that's me being a cheapskate, I guess. :P

When I get back home I have to find out about renewing the membership, 100SEK is quite agreeable! :D :D

And yes, I'll let you know when I'm going back, haven't booked the time off work yet, or the travel.. but guess I better get on to that! Time goes quickly.. but I'd love to meet up! Maybe we can swap 'mobile phones' nearer to the time, as that will be the better option for keeping in touch while I'm in Sweden. My online access will be VERY limited as my mother has no computer! :(

Ruled out the 'Red Dragon' as it requires painting some white on the leading edges et.c.. and I can only get an even white if I spray it.. so it won't happen until the summer now! Instead I will do a quick build Draken out of box, from this classic kit..

Guys, due to extremely much to do at work and domestically I have been out of the loop for some weeks.
So, therefore no updates, sorry for that.

The Little time I had, have been spent modelling and no time to upload pics.

So, fast forward.

Tomorrow she will get a satin varnish and thats it! (Finally, seems this build fought me to the end)
Will the post pics in the gallery section.

Weathering was first done during paint stage, then some chipping (painted).
I have used Flory models Grime on the underside, with some dark dirt in wheel wells and front.
On the top side its been two stages, first grime, then dark dirt over panel/rivet lines etc.
I have also used Vallejo wash on the doors, gear, Wheels etc. Grey and dark grey.
Gear and doors glued with CA gel.
Was very happy to find out she was not a tail sitter, so I used enough lead. (but only just...)

Next update will be in the album section...well that is if shes ok after de-masking! :?

Cheers guys! :cheers2:

Super job on the pit and a great job of making pit wind resistant lol. Really coming together well and looks good. May have to get one some time as previously put off by reviews but looks like a vampire to me
