Questions for the News show...

Post by Lee »

We are doing a new segment on the news show...

Question Time..

Basically - We would like to answer any modelling related questions you might have. Anything to do from building, painting, weathering or anything else modelling related.

We plan to pick and answer three every month so, if you have something you's like to ask on the show then please feel free to post here for February's show. We won't answer your questions on the thread, just on the news show :th:

We'll delete all the questions every month once the show has been aired, so new ones can be posted...

Looking forward to your questions :D
Where does all the bloody time go.....?

I hope this question isn't a silly one as I'm a new modeller, but I have the full range of tamiya acylics and have only tried to build two tamiya models as the call out for the paint is tamiya paint and easier to follow.

So if I was to get a trumperter or hasagawa or revell model how do you get the best matches to the paint call outs, I have looked at different paint conversion charts but find them quite difficult to follow.
How do you more experienced modellers out there cope with this.
I hope this question doesn't sound too silly

Thanks everyone, Lee and Paul.
Looking forward to the show.

I have question.
How can you see if a kit is a reboxed model? (e.g. how can you see that a revell kit is a reboxed matchbox kit?)
I know that Rob (basicmodelling) made a vid about it, but are there other ways to see if it is a reboxed kit?

Jos
Scalemates is a pretty good website for this. You type in your kit and it brings up the history of it. When it was first released, when it had new parts, decals etc, when it was reboxed or retooled. Particularly helpfull for those old airfix kits that they've put in shiny new boxes!

Hi,
I don't know if this is related to the news show so sorry if it is a stupid question.
I've been thinking of getting a cam corder to make videos of my work area, etc. I have to say it's for another site and maybe You Tube but i wanted to ask what to look for when buying one. i have absolutely no idea of what to look for and as Lee and Paul use them i wanted to ask for their advice on what features are needed.
I've not made up my mind yet as i have to save up for one and don't know if i will be able to afford one so wanted to avoid any pitfalls.
Really sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.
Thanks.

I have always been curious about the "Scale Color Theory," I have read about it, but do not fully understand it. What IS scale Color theory and what benefits does it provide? Would you use it in certain circumstances versus pre/post shading? Or can you use both techniques together?

Thanks!

After the Breaking News about Ultimate products. Could you do a review of the wash and sanding sticks. I have used the Vallejo washes in the past, but I am interested to more information before I place an order (the nearest hobby shop is a two hour drive from my home). I know you guys don't want to toot your own horn, but as a modeler any new product that will get me results I want to know about it.

Thanks Mike

I have used the Vallejo washes in the past, but I am interested to more information before I place an order (the nearest hobby shop is a two hour drive from my home). I know you guys don't want to toot your own horn, but as a modeler any new product that will get me results I want to know about it.

Thanks Mike
Hey mike, heres a vid i did a while back showing the washes in use

After making a P-51D "Big Beautiful Doll" for the first time and following the paint guide by Revell, I wasn't happy with the overall Humbrol Aluminum finish that just looks like a grey metallic. After doing some online research it seems that people use Alclad paints to get a more realistic shiny bare metal finish. Therefore, my question would be; Can there be a video demonstrating the correct procedures for applying Alclad Paints and then finishing them. Does one have to wait longer for a metallic paint to set before applying a gloss varnish, or can one apply decals straight onto the shiny metalized paint? Hoe does the paint react with varnishes and decal setting solutions?

Cheers,

Martin :scratch::

A question for the April news show:
What mr hobby buffables colour or colours should I use for jet exhausts?

I've found out from some of you guys that these mr hobby buffables are really good but what colours are best for exhausts?
Hope im not too late for the news show. Although as it's April 1st I probably am too late.
Cheers
