Revell Tiger II Ausf. B 1:72 scale

Post by apraedel »

Found that one under the Christmas tree, so this will be my first 1:72 kit ever.
Actually I feel that the 1:35 suits me much better, but let's see ...
I also got myself the CMK "German Tank crew 1944" which will hopefully add a little more life.

I built that tank too some time ago. Decent kit, just the link & length tracks suck. Looking forward to seeing yours built! :thumb1:

Great photographs and well laid out, and along with Markus i will watch this one, i agree with the 1/35 builds but i admire the 1/72 kit builders, and these will make for a great diorama.

Yeah indeed these tracks suck like hell.
I already learned that some 1:35 PE parts are hard to handle but this was even worse.
Will have to cover these poor ones with a good amount of mud pigments ...

Pre-shaded the interior (hull and turret) in black. Primed the tracks also in black. I also added the last detailed parts, so next step will be the actual painting process ...
Also found a nice wodden photo frame at my local "Depot" store, I guess the tank will finally join this base then.

Painted dark yellow base color and pre-weathered the tracks.

I've done the same kit a while ago and it was a nice build. I have to say that I also had a few difficulties with the tracks. The rubber tracks of Tamiya and other kits are much easier, but they just don't look as good. You can easily cover up a few hick-ups with mud etc.

BTW: I painted the interior of my tank white, although you don't see much of that now. It's more like "I know it's there...". ;) Any reason why you glued on the towing cables before you painted them? I find it easier to paint them and the whole model first, then glue on the exterior parts. But maybe that's just me making it too complicated...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to your updates on this model. :cheers2:

Oh yeah, and here's my model:

Well, I am used to be a 1:35 scale guy, so I actually didn't thought about these tiny parts at all when I already put them in place ... maybe it's that I don't prefer to glue already painted parts, I quite often messed up the painted parts when the glue is being apllied and the parts move around a bit.

Btw., I like your work very much, already got myself this Aquasoft software for creating the Youtube Slide Show, I need to check out that piece of software by myself.

Cheers !

Ok, I see your point. Painted parts are definitely more difficult to glue on. About the slide show program: It's fairly easy to use and free, that's why I have chosen it. What I don't like so much about it is that you cannot turn off the stupid dolphin-heart-sparkle watermark which makes the videos look a bit silly. :wall: Oh well, I guess I have to find another program or live with it. 8-)

I followed the suggested paint scheme for a 1945 western front king tiger and used my brand new airbrush on a model for the very first time. Painting all the details without messing up everything will now be the next challenge.
Again, comments are welcome ...

I agree. I found the camo on a small tank like this was quite difficult and you nailed it! :th:

Added decals and painted some details. Next will be the washing, more detail painting, weathering with pigments. And the King Tiger will get a little friend as well - just for a quite impressive size comparison ...
