Need some advice!

As some of you know I'm new to the modelling world. I'm currently working on a P-40E kit 1/72 scale by Academy. Noticed there was a massive gap on the underneath by the tail section so naturally I decided to use some putty to fill it. Now the problem is getting a nice smooth transition on the piece of the tail. Any advice will be gladly welcomed!

Can't seem to get the picture I took down to the allowed size either...

What putty did you use?

Some puttys can be smoothed out with thinners.

If I have this problem I use a putty that can be smoothed while 'wet' (Perfect Plastic Putty or Vallejo) with a moist cotton bud. building it up in layers to fill the gap or step. Otherwise I use a harder 2 part putty then use a softer one for the smooth top.

Having the right putty can make all the difference - I used to just use Green Stuff and could never get a smooth finish on gaps.

Thanks for the tip. I'm using Tamiya (white), is that a good one to use?

if you are afraid to damage the surrounding areas ??? mask it with Masking Tape!

which you will use as sacrificing surface.... while sanding the putty.... don't go too aggressive or you will damage the Masking tape too fast...

once you think the Taps has Died ! remove it.. replace it and continue ! this will only prevent you to Sand off... fine details... in the near vicinity !

once you start being happy with the seam... then remove the tape and polish the area....

It may sound tedious but.. it can also alleviate some heartaches... seeing crisp details fade away under your sanding ....

Tamiya Putty likes its own brand of Lacquer thinner ! * Tamiya Lacquer Thinner *
and can be smothered out while still fresh using a Q-Tip moisten in TLT while going across the grain ! not with the seam !

What everyone else said re- the sanding.

for the photobucket picture, open the picture on photobucket and to the right there should be a text line called IMG, clicking in this should copy you a line of text that sho7uld look something like this....

For the pics, I just go into paint, open the pic, press resize, press pixels and then put in 253
