The reasons for this build
Hello, this is my first time in a build competition.
Anyway, I have chosen a fighter .. (good start) The BF110 was a heavy fighter but one of its variants had a bomb rack altered into its design, although it wasn't a BOMBER like the Lancaster it did drop a devastating payload.

The MESSERSCHMITT BF110E/E2
The E/E2 was a variant of the Messerschmitt Bf 110, the Germans added a bomb rack. During the Balkans Campaign, North African Campaign and on the Eastern Front, it rendered valuable ground support to the German Army as a potent fighter-bomber (Jagdbomber or Jabo).

The Messerschmitt Bf 110, often (erroneously) called Me 110, was a twin-engine heavy fighter (Zerstörer—German for "Destroyer") in the service of the Luftwaffe during World War II. Hermann Göring was a proponent of the Bf 110, and nicknamed it his Eisenseiten ("Ironsides"). It was armed with two 20 mm cannons, four 7.92 mm (.312 in) MG 17 machine guns, and one 7.92 mm (.312 in) MG 15 machine gun or twin MG 81Zs for defense. Development work on an improved type to replace the Bf 110, the Messerschmitt Me 210 began before the war started, but its teething troubles resulted in the Bf 110 soldiering on until the end of the war in various roles, alongside its replacements, the Me 210 and the Me 410.
The Bf 110 served with considerable success in the early campaigns, the Polish, Norwegian and Battle of France. The Bf 110's lack of agility in the air was its primary weakness. This flaw was exposed during the Battle of Britain, when some Bf 110-equipped units were withdrawn from the battle after very heavy losses and redeployed as night fighters, a role to which the aircraft was well suited. The Bf 110 enjoyed a successful period following the Battle of Britain as an air superiority fighter and strike aircraft in other theatres.

The Kit
I will be building the tidy airfix kit, I picked out the airfix kit because... it was only a tenner.. The box art (see bellow) is a tidy picture which attracts attention because of its predominant character (BF110) and the small dogfight in the background! The sprue's were clean, if there was flash it was in a thin wafer, and the figure needed to have a bit of a sand but none the less, for the money I would expect this and it doesn't take long to fix. I was impressed with the details, I know it wouldnt compare to more expensive kits but it gives the builder and viewer a satisfaction with the groves and once painted I think it will look superb.

21/01/2014 - Starting the build.
Today or yesterday was the start, I bought a new airbrush and used it on the cockpit basing it all in black, I will lighten it with a grey so the decals show better.


But what would be the point of commands and controls without the propellers?

And so they aren't absolutely useless I assembled the wings, but until the cockpit is done I cannot put it together...


Im not sure on what this is but I suspect its either a radiator or air filter? but its installed!

Also I added the landing gear, my model will be grounded so I had to do this or I would have to plant it nose first destroyed. I will add more pictures of the completed gear tomorrow because the camera didn't take it?

Rear flaps and engines done, joined with the nose.

Grrrrr...


I forgot to mention but I picked up some things for this build like brush glue so I dont get the nasty dolopes of the stuff!


Thanks for looking, I hope this is of a good standard, if the thread is well laid out, could you tell me? also if I'm missing parts, please also make me aware because I would love to be at a standard like some of the other members!

the squarish items next to the engines are indeed radiators, and the layout of your thread is absolutely fine, nice clear pictures and informative captions.
i'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this build as the 110 is something of a favourite of mine!
