Who let the dogs out! Another 1/35 M41 Walker Bulldog

I was very pleased when I saw that RobertA had posted a WIP thread on a M41 Walker Bulldog as I have just recently finished one (well almost!). I say almost as I'm toying with the idea of giving it a light spray of Tamiya XF-57 buff to give it a slightly dusty look and then picking out a few more chips to add another layer. Alternatively I might just give it a matt coat and leave it!

I didn't intentionally buy this kit (no, I didn't sleepwalk into Hobbycraft and inadvertently buy it!), it was actually sent to me by Lucky Model to make up for an unfulfilled order. Let me state that this was by no means the fault of Lucky Model, the item I ordered had gone into constraint and there was no lead-time on any more stock. Lucky Model very graciously offered to send me any item of the same value at no additional shipping cost!! Saw this on their site and liked the look of it. A nice easy build and it all went together without any tantrums - literally took a Saturday afternoon to put together and then a couple of painting sessions and it was done. Base coat was Mr Hobby Aqueous olive drab with some tonal changes here and there. Most of the weathering was done with oils with a bit of a rust wash here and there to add some streaks etc.

I didn't intend on putting up any pictures as this was intended as purely a distraction from the Steel Rain SiG, but then I saw that RobertA had done the same kit and I thought - it's not quite a "buddy-build", but what the heck!















Apologies for all the photos (and the lack of quality!), but with the old iPhone its easy to get carried away! There's a few glaring errors with it and those with a keen eye will notice that I'm not a fan of filling and sanding - well not on a quick distraction build anyway!
I wasn't sure whether or not to rust up the exhaust cowling and opted instead just to do the mufflers and pipes instead. Probably not the most realistic look, but then I'm unsure as to just how rusty they would have got anyway.

Looks excellent to me and you have given me some ideas of how to further improve mine... Very inpirational indeed.. It is a nice kit and I wish all models went together as easily as this one..

But yes, it is a beauty, very nicely done and subtly weathered.. I need to practise my weathering skills, a tank like this is the perfect tool for that kind of practise, in my opinion..

Have done some more work on mine today, only very quickly.. but won't post any pictures until tomorrow at the earliest..

After seeing your totally awesome Priest, I can't help thinking that my Bulldog looks a bit "naked" in the stowage department!
