Lindberg 1:400 HMS Victory

Built OOB. Rigging with elastic thread. Anchor rope made of waxed acrylic thread. Davits scratch built.

Beautiful Was there any fit issues or issues with this kit? The IJN I53 was terrible, and hence I have shied away from Lindberg.

Lindberg kits has never been my preference, but when you find a good deal for £1 you have to grab it with both hands. Hehehe. Was actually £3, but I haggled. This was also an old kit dated from the early 70s. I haven't worked on many Lindberg kits. Let alone classic ships. I was sold to this vintage piece, so I had to give it a go. Call it a spontaneous moment of nostalgia.

Don't blame ya Bissy, at that price one jumps on it. The Victory is definitely on my list down the road for a sailing ship. I had an opportunity of touring her while in Portsmouth some time long ago. Beautiful boat and history.

Read your other post on her, seems you had the same problem as me with the hull. My I53 was a 2nd release. One would have thunk they would have corrected their mistakes. They didn't

Sounds like a nice event. Would love to explore the gun decks and have a good nose inside the gallery. Something about the hull on this ship that has always intrigued me. Can you tell me if the hull was clad with copper plates or steel plates? So many times I have seen models with a copper finish up to the waterline. I have seen red ones too. It was the look I was going for, but I have doubts about it being accurate. Those mistakes are annoying. The prescription to those headaches, are as always fillers and more fillers.The I-53 is an impressive sub. Not many sub kits that comes with 300 parts and the whole build is more than 58 inches long! Imagine the ideal sub heaven when you could build an i-400 in the same scale. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

... according to the archives she did indeed have a copper-ed bottom from 1780-1799. That is all I could find. This process took place for the first time in March 1780. The bottom of the ship below the waterline was covered with 3923 sheets of copper to protect her hull against shipworm.

Wrt my visit which dates back to 1978, I can't remember.

Might be of interest - Victory firing a rolling broad side from the middle and upper gun decks (if memory serves the real 32 pdrs on the lower gundeck have been replaced by replicas due to the weight).
