Had to go to plan B on the rudder pedals right off the bat. I took my tweezer and picked up one of the plastic kit parts and "ping" off it went into space, never to be seen again ( even after looking for it for over and hour ). Carpet monster 1, me 0. Photoetched looks better any way, right? The rest of the cockpit went together in about 2 hours of part clean up and fiddling to fit. A hint to anyone attempting this kit; keep the fuselage halves near by and test fit with the side panels frequently. I made the mistake of not getting the left side panel "out" far renough and now there is a pretty large gap between it and the left fuselage. I have decided to pray for forgiveness to the God of plastic and hope the canopy covers most of it. One of the last steps is fitting the pilao instrument panel and if I did that before putting too much glue on the left side and floor, it might have come out better.

Well, the cockpit being to narrow and the resulting gap with the fuselage was too much to live with, so I did some surgery. Using a razor saw I cut away some of the bonded surfaces inside and I am pleased with the new improved dry fit. I use masking tape to hold major parts together during the dry fit process. Once detailed out with paint and seat belts the next step is to cement the fuselage together with the cockpit captured inside. Some clamps and cement on the side walls will hold it together with the new improved proper fit. I always prime the cockpits black so that when I paint the main interior color , it is highlighted in the shadow areas with the black undercoat.

My update on the Bomber Group Build. The problem with the cockpit fit seems to have been solved with the use of clamps and a generous ammount of glue. Once the clamps were removed it held well and the gaps are gone. Some painting of the cockpit has been done too. The fuselage halve are glued together and the top part is only held in place by tape as a test fit. There will be some filler needed, but thankfully no major fit problems so far.

Here are some pictures of the airframe as it goes together and an "interesting" feature of the kit - The manufacturer info for the kit maker in raised letters on the elevator. Not difficult to correct (remove) but if I was the head of Revell, I would be embarrassed by such a bone head move on their part. I am not sure but I think Monogram even put such stuff on the inside of their moldings.
On a positive note, the fit of the major components was pretty good, and the wing root was the best I have ever seem, especially on such a large model.

Have decided that this bird will be in flight.

I have an interesting picture coped from the web to use as a base.

Putty was needed on centerline of fuselage. Fit of horizontal stabilizers was not as good as wing root.

Offending manufacturer's log removed.

To be honest this build has been back burnered for a month or so. The gear doors are not ment to be closed on this model and they gave me fits until I said "that's as good as its going to get." Some Mr. Surfacer will have to close the gaps. Hey, service aircraft were pretty beat up weren't they? Paint will help too. And do not loose one of the engine manifold like I did or you will be forced to make a new uglier one.

The ultimat goal is to have this aircraft in flight and you won't notice all the cobb jobs on it. I hope.
