1/72 Airfix Bf110 Trop

hiya all,

this is an ongoing project I started on youtube for Nigel Wells North Africa GB, but History Rider asked me to show some photos of the build so I thought I would share the build where it sands now
Though I am armor modeler I'm beginning to enjoy aircraft more and more, and this build is gonna be my test piece for a much larger aircraft project I've got planned in the future

there are some seam line that I left unattended as I had no putty or fine sanders (which I've ordered now ) The model was primed in sky grey and then dry shaded (which is a little hard to see) and the upper surfaces where sprayed with Humbrol Insignia yellow and the lower sides were sprayed Vallejo model color sky blue , then I tried to show panel fades by mixing a little white into both colors and focused in the middle of random panels again this a little hard to see, the aircraft was sprayed in clear in prep for the decals











next is now to begin weathering and paint the final sub assemblies

Looking great so far! I had fit issues with mine, and since I didn't have the proper equip to fix it, it was real gated to the shelf of doom! I like the colors so far! Neat idea with the shading!

Looks great! That colour scheme really stands out doesnt it?

I have the same kit on my bench, I'm at the canopy masking stage - bloody nightmare at Braille scale - and I'm going to try my hand at first attempt at pre-shading when done.

I also goofed and put the wheel well sections in wrong way around, no bother, it will now be a wheels up flying model!

This is a great kit - almost zero filler used, snapped together in place nicely, hardly needs glue at all. I like the plane so much I've bought a Revell and a Fujimi in 1/48 scale..

thanks mate, I had a small fit issue with joining the fuselage half's together but I sorted that with a thin strip of plastic and some putty But I hope yours comes down off the shelf some day

the only thing with the preshading is to keep the your layers thin, and try to keep the preshading just visible through the paint, I unfortunately went a little too heavy with my layers I lost a lot of it and it was kinda the same with the panel fades I should added a bit more white as it very hard to see the difference.....but I've learned for next time

I know what you mean with the Canopy is a little nightmare to do, but stick at it and take your time, I used liquid mask on some of the smaller lens too helps a lot over trying to cut the tape to fit lol
preshading is a lot of fun and really adds a lot, but be careful when spraying over the undershade that you dont lose it completely I kinda did that by mistake lol but we learn hahah
oh nice I'm thinking of getting my hands on a 1/48 version of this kit too some time


the build is just about ready to begin its weathering, I'll be taking plenty of photos of this

here's some progress on the 110, got the panel lines done using a heavy wash of Mig Shadow Brown

she is all done now, after the panel wash was added, the model was sealed again and a pot filter of white and yellow ocher oils were added to give a sun bleached look and help lighten the overall looks of the aircraft
