Italian Light Tank L6/40 to Semovente 47/32 Conversion

Post by hansolo »

Hi Guys,

Yep! Another conversion. I'm the conversion guy. :D

I didn't like the look of my L6/40. Mainly because of my soso paintjob.
But I also didn't like the silhouette.

When I looked around for images of the L6/40, I came across images of another version of this tank.
Semovente 47/32 which doesn't have a curret, but an open hull and the gun fitted in the upper part of it.

Here are a few examples:

So I took off the turret, ripped of the top plate, drilled a hole in the hull for the gun implacement,
cut out a pease of the gun to shorten it and glued it to the hull.
I know the mounting part for the gun is not historically accurate, but it'll have to do. ;)

Ready for painting!

First a layer of dark grey and hairspray for the chipping.

Than I used a very light sand color for the outside and white for inside.

Next up: chipping!

Detail painting and decals:

Then the rest: dark wash, dry brush, dust, rust, mud and as finishing touch a cover made from wet tissue drenged in white glue.
For tarps and covers I used to use regular toilet paper with glue, but that was always very fragile and fell apart easily. Wet tissues or wet toiletpaper is sturdier and easier to handle and gives a more realistic result.

I just didn't like the camo and I didn't put enough time in to satisfy myself with the result. :thumb1:
