Revell, 1/32, Heinkel He 219 UHU

Always loved this Aircraft. First time I ever saw it (looong time ago in a galaxy far far away) I thought it looked ugly, but "modern".
As I have looked at it over the years and read about it, I have come to Think of it as a fantastic and beautiful Aircraft.
Ahead of its time in many respects, but also with a potential that was never to be fully realized.
It has a very interesting history, especially the design part and how it actually came about.
First the design was radically different and intended as a fast recon plane. (which was missing in the Luftwaffe)
Then the RLM changed the specs many times (almost bankrupted Heinkel), until finally it became a reality as a Nigh Fighter.
Again to fill a gap, all planes used as NF were modified existing types. The 219 was the first and only purpose built NF in the Luftwaffe during WWII.

I will build the A-2 ver. Since the subjects with the camo I want to do are...A-2.
(The A-7 never really existed, since the spec was never realized due to the Engines that was never available)

Finally, the He 219 was the most advanced nightfighter designed and build during WWII. It even had ejection seats!!!

Here is the (BIG) Revell kit and some extra goodies. No PE though since I think the OOB details are good enough.
(If You really want to go to Town with a 219, buy the Zoukei-Mura kit!)

The kit was a bit banged up since it was packed in the bottom of a box with other kits and stuff on top.
Major clear parts and some other small parts were loose but luckely no damage.


Fuse sides...big bird!


Radar antennas and Engine parts x 2


Cockpit, fuse parts, inside of flaps, etc...and one loose, the goggles used to look into the radar.


Wings


Clear parts, all canopies loose but ok


Nice details OOB to work with, so decided to skip PE. (Dont like Eduards colored PE anyway, strange colors)






Surface detail is not that bad.


Flash, yes that was no REVELLation...


Some parts are "semi loose" this is a Close call, bent out of shape but in one peice...


Decals, very nice! (Cartograf)


Incl. individual instruments.


Revell has A LOT to learn regarding writing instructions...


The wünderbar camo I will attempt. (I Think its 4 options)

Wheels (The Wheels are very prominent on the 219 so wanted nice ones)


HGW fabric seatbelts...Ooooh they are gems! If You havent, do check them out.


Will get started as soon as the Condor leaves the nest...or as it nears the end in a week or so.

Wow! You've got some great extras there, and those books look fantastic! I never used to like the look of this plane, but over time it's grown on me. Now I really want to build one. Hope it goes well dude!

Hi Martin, Its about 50£/€, not bad considering the size and level of detail.
Also the new Revell 1/32 kits are actually good quality kits with no major issues.
All the big birds from Revell cost 50-60£/€ depending on where you buy.

I looked for this plane from one of my local hobbyist suppliers and here's a link for you to check the price out, which comes out at around 30.00 pounds in UK currency.

Maybe if you order a few items from this place with the shipping to UK cost added on it still works out cheaper than buying from the UK? It's already 20.00 pounds cheaper to buy from here.

Thanks Martin, but remember I live in Sweden, as the UK we are part of the EU.
We have to pay VAT and customs fees when we buy from the US.
Also the shipping cost is more than from within the EU.
Taken into account it will cost us about the same as here...

Good news! (for me...)
I found a way around re-building the mancave right now by modifying an existing desk (long legs for standing work, cut down to sitting height with an angle grinder) and re arranging some stuff. So now I have two work tables and can finally work on two models at the same time.
Meaning I can get started on the 219 as I finish the Condor.

Will instead paus modelling in the summer for 2-4 weeks when 219 is done, to do the major re-building.
Including upgrading my spray bay to a GraphicAir A300S...the Sparmax one I have is "ok" (will keep that also) but...You know one has to care for ones health. The so called acrylics from Tamiya, Gunze etc contain nasty stuff also not only metalizers, Alclads, Enamels etc.
Never foget that guys and take care!!!

Just starting to prep some of the cockpit parts.


As I Went trough the sprues hunting parts I discovered this!
As I wrote in the first post this kit was a Little banged up when it arrived.
This is one of the top fuse pieces that has taken a beating. Cracked, bent and one gate ripped of the part.
Oooh well, some extra work, all fixable...



Will fix crack with glue, bend with heat and gate damage with filler...just unlucky its on the top and not belly.





Call me nuts, but I think this is one beautiful piece of plastic...



Nice cockpit instrument detail to work with.



BTW, forgot in first post, will use some of these cockpit placards to spice it up a bit.

and those extra decals.sure will make it stand out
too bad it.has some damage but with some tlc it should be possible.to.fix it
i think hamilkar barkas made one of these on his youtube channel
they look really nice once build and painted
