Dragon 1/72 Elephant and reality in scale house: Anizo dio

Post by longlance67 »

Hiya all

time for another small scale build after being welcomed into the small sale family (thanks Eryk :D )
after having a blast with the KingTiger I wanted to try something a little different and push myself a little more with each build, so for this project we will be try our hand at Diorama depicting a Elephant operating in the Anizo beachhead, my first Italian themed build and something I'm very excited about try my hand at :)

the Dragon kit seems to be one of their earlier small scale releases and does not have the same sharpness as its newer release brothers and but its still a nice kit though I will have add Zimmert myself which will be tricky in this scale but not impossible ;)

the building for this dio came from Reality in Sale's Dio72 range, which is a four part resin set, depicting an Italian house with a side gate and outdoor cellar entrance, its a finely cast with no sink marks or bubbles and little to no flash

looking forward to embarking this project should be a lot of fun :)

thanks for looking

Sounds like a cool plan Shane, I`ll be watching this one :D

Tip on the zimmerit though: most guys I know who do it in 72 don`t put putty down first; they just carve it into the surface with the ol`hobby blade as that`s a better scale look. But on this the zimmerit only goes halfway up the superstructure sides so if you do it that way it won`t look good because the marks on it would be lower than the steel plate....just a tip, maybe you could put just a hint of putty to raise the zimmerit up a tad...but I don`t know and it`s our model so hey, have a fun build with it :thumb2:

Hiya buddy, thanks for the heads up mate, but I have to admit the thought of craving up the model is a little too scary for me to stomach hahahah, the plane I have for the Zimm is the same method I used for the 1/76 KingTiger I originally intended for Russell's D-day GB on youtube, where I used Citadels liquid greenstuff applied ultra thin to the model and the pattern made from a tiny tool I made from scrap sheet ;)

thanks again though

Shane :)

Hiya All

first small update, got a hour at the bench and began work on the roads wheels and suspension arms, man I hate road wheels hahaha but has to be done, after a hour of cutting and clean up all the wheelies where on and now its on to the tracks which are link and length which may be a pain to get right I fear

first snag in the build, things were going so well until I got to the tracks, which are horrible to work with as the drive sprokets sit too far back from the road wheels thus making the tracks not line up

so either I find a way to add spacers to the drives or change the elephant for another model, got a StugIV early I could use in its stead
