Love or hate

Post by Nige201980 »

So when you are doing your models which bits do you hate and which bits do you love?

For me I hate filling and sanding a kit that fit is less than perfect. I also had masking the canopy.
I love the painting the model it's when the model then starts to come to life.

Filling and sanding are very annoying aswell as masking off aircraft canopies. Both types of work are very common for aircraft models thats why i build them not that often (but i really like these models!).
I love it to spray on a camo pattern and to position some stowage pieces on a tank, thats always big fun and makes me feel that i make some good progress on the model.

Love: The feel and look of the model after priming it (I use a Humbro Spray Can) and adding extra's onto a model to make it unique. I also love painting camo :D

Hate: Has to either be doing the wheels on a tank such as a tiger or scratch building a cockpit on a really old kit (the most recent being Airfix's Val) I have limited scratch building resources and skills so it just annoys me as it slows the build down.

I love opening the box for the first time and I love putting the finished kit in the cabinet. I hate the bit in between. :P

I love building up a kit, then I tend to get a bit irritated with the steps of filling, sanding etc etc before you can crack on with the painting. I also hate decalling if there are loads of little tiny ones!

I mostly hate when you screw up on some painting in such a way that you can't easily fix it.

Filling and sanding and filling and sanding and filling and sanding and . . . It just seems to go on forever so I hate that bit.

As Gary said, the best bits are opening the box and then looking at the finished mess, I mean kit.

Hate canopy's, I always screw them up in some way either with gluing or scratching.
Love pulling off masking tape after painting and finding a nice straight even line....unfortunately with me it doesn't happen very often.

I love everything that is armour modelling and diorama making.
I hate finishing them and putting them on the shelf.
I fall in love with them while I'm working on them and putting them up is like the day after Xmas when your 10.
Until I open the next one.

There is nothin I hate when it goes well.

When it doesn't there are sooo many things
A run in clearcoat, a fingerprint/dust/hair in paint, realising you missed a part or attached in the wrong order/orientation, the carpet monster, not having the right tool/paint
ill stop there :-)
Stand aside caffine, this is a job for alcohol.

I hate it when I get glue on my face, paint on my fingers and my mum hates it when I annoy her and my dad hates it when I glue him to the toilet seat.

If that sounds a bit weird then watch a YouTube channel by modelpro72 and you will understand ... cheers Lenny!! LOL!!

Having just returned to the hobby, I don't know that I "hate" any aspect of the process YET. I DREAD the approach of each new step until I actually jump in and start to do it and then it brings a smile back to my face. When things work out, the smile gets bigger and I am proud of the accomplishment. When it doesn't work out the way I wanted it to, I grumble and curse a bit then chock it up as a learning experience and move on! I have no doubt that will change as the builds start to add up.

As for "love", there are a few that have cropped up as this first build slowly rolls on:

- That first whiff of Testor's enamel brush cleaner/thinner and thin plastic cement (nostalgia).
- Attaching the wings to the fuselage ("Hey look! It really IS a plane!") even though the fit was less than ideal.
- Working my way through various grits of sanding sticks to clean up seems and then running my fingers over the successfully vanished seam!

I have no doubt there will be more to come

Hate it when the most important small part that you have in your tweezers pings of into the realm of the carpet monster just as your are about to position it

Love it when I find it...

Hate it when it pings off again and again and again

Take one of your roughest Sandind stick and pinch it on either side with your tweezers!
Then "sand" or "rough up" the tip area of your troubling Tweezers just a bit to give it that extra grip! Should help a bit if they are of the smooth tips kind!

And don't use too much pressure when handling tinny parts!

I feel your pain! :thumb2:

Hope this will help a bit?

Just remembered something else I hate. When I finish a kit and have to have a huge reshuffle on the shelf, trying to find somewhere to put it! Ha.

hate - ill fitting peices (which then requires filling and sanding) and large decalling especially over irregular shapes etc

like - finishing the decalling process (still yet to learn the correct procedure to weather)
