I use my old detail painting brushes for dry brushing
Only round ones though as i have just 2 flat brushes and those are used for streaking effects and washes (to remove the excess)
As for the cobble stones i start with a black surface and use a sponge for the first coat of grey so it covers most of the surface
Then i dry brush a lighter grey on top of that this can be repeated several times for more color variation with a lighter shade for each time you do this
You can do a final dry brushing using white or a very light shade of grey to replicate the effectof chipping the outer layer of the stones wich can be seen as tanks drive over them with the steel tracks damaging the stone surface
But keep in mind that white is a strong color for this effect and will bright at first
But if you should use a wash or pigments/pastel chalk after that step it should blend it a bit and the white should be subdued
Hope it helps
Cheers Mark

Good luck with painting
A spare piece comes in handy so you will have a test surface
