Airfix Hurricane IID

Hi everyone, just a quick question about the Vickers 40mm S gun that is under the wings of the Hurricane IID: there is a large lip around the casing, running from front to back but is this supposed to be there? It's too uniform and too thick to be flash I reckon but I'm just not sure. I can't find a photo of the real thing where you can clearly see it so I'm a bit unsure... HELP!!!

As you can see on both that there is a ridge all the way round the gun housing so it's not flash.
