Yes, definetely decided what I am going to be doing now!

Cold War Harrier GR3 in a Harrier Hide somewhere in East Germany.

Best go figure out how to do scale camo netting now I guess!

If you think cold war you think nukes and then you think bombers! So I picked a classic nuclear bomber, but not the B-52........ instead Britain's contribution the Vulcan.

This will be built as XM607 as it was during Operation Blackbuck as part of along term project to pair it with this model.

I can't build the Victor along with the Vulcan in the group build as I bought it off ebay as part started and most of the parts are off the sprues although not much else has been done.

My final plan is to have the pair as a diorama with the Vulcan refuelling from the Victor enroute to Port Stanley. The final set up will be huge!

Love the Vulcan, used to watch them doing low level bombing practice when I was on holiday when I was kid. There used to be a bomb range about 15 miles down the coast from where my grandparents lived. The Vulcans would parallel the shore line at about 120' altitude..... Amazing watching them go overhead.

5Craven, I think Lee or Paul would allow the Victor in the GB if you asked. It doesn't look that started anyway! Now all you need is the Airfix Valient and you can have a V-force!

Here is a photo of all the parts laid out in general shot. Nothing has been painted but as you can quite a lot of parts have been removed (hacked is more accurate!) from the sprues. Nothing has been painted or even undercoated. No pretending on these multicoloured Matchbox kits!

Some attempt has been made to join some of the wing sections together, fortunately it was unsuccessful despite the amount of glue used.

To give you a sense of how big the final model is here is an in the box shot again with my 1/48 D.520 above just one of the wings.

Ohh dear I think I may have talked myself into a big task here

Hmmm. . . I went way outside my comfort zone in the WWII GB. I think I'll go back to my natural surroundings and build the M47 Patton (Bundeswehr of course!).

If the M60A2 is not excepted, you might want to do the M551 Sheridan. It saw service during the Vietnam conflict.
Norm/Schweinhund227 completed and posted his finished model and it was AWESOME!!! Check out his youtube vid.

I think that Academy no longer makes it but Tamiya has one on HobbyLinc.

I think an M60 should be fine, it was the mainstay of the US Army until the M1 Abrams came along. The Cold War span a long time, so there is plenty of choice!

I saw that photo yesterday when I was hunting for reference pics. I found a forum where someone was asking the same thing (for pics of the hides) and this is the kind of thing I am going for...

Even found somewhere that does British style 1/72 sand channels to replicate the metal boards used to stop the wheels sinking into the ground.

Although I am now going to do a GR1, as the Airfix GR3 kit is awful, and although there is an Italeri GR3 which is supposed to be quite good, the new tooled GR1 looks awesome!

Gav, don't know if you've found any yet, but you can get PE Cam nets, I've only seen it in 1/35 though. I got some British pattern stuff from Accurate Armour, haven't used it yet but it looks nice.

Dio idea is a great one, good hunting!

Ps, it must be a VERY good hide if your putting it in East Germany, lol!

I am probably going to buy this Huey Hog anyway but I wanted to know if it can be entered for the GB.
Borderline as America was NATO but service of this bird looks like it was focused around Vietnam.

The war in Vietnam was originally supported by NATO allies, even though the United States took an active role in the conflict outside of NATO. However, as the war progressed it took a toll on the alliance as European allies began to view the war as an American war and not an allied effort.

Should be fine, as far as I understand it entries are suitable so long as they were in active service with a NATO or Warsaw Pact country between 1947 and 1991. Doesn't mean the subject had to have been used in a NATO sanctioned conflict as such. So a Huey Hog would be fine, was in service with the US during the period known as the Cold War.

Lee or Paul might disagree, but that was my interpretation anyway!

And yes, my Harrier will be based in West Germany lol......

Think I will give an aircraft a go, just watched a documentary on the Fairey Gannet, look,s ugly but fit,s the time scale and Revell do a really cheap kit so the Gannet it will be in some sort of dio, anyway best go research some more, cheer,s Dave.

I have built Revells Gannet. Looks very pretty

Make sure you put enought weights in the nose tho, mine is a tail sitter.

There is an aftermarket resin wing fold set, but in 72nd scale I don't think the detail would be up to much. Mine will be wing,s down

have not done a 72nd scale kit in age,s, just hope the eye sight is up to it

There's a crap load of pictures on Google of PT-76s doing exactly that too. So lots of reference.

Easy tigers, remember this one goes on for 4 months as well this time! Chances are I ain't going to start mine until October sometime perhaps. I have other models on the go just now, a PhD to finish asap and no money, so the wait is also kind of enforced lol!
