They are high-tech, but this is a street bike. Ducati Corsa tried to utilize the "offset" shock on their race bikes several years ago and it was conducive to flex. In the swing-arm and the actual suspension components. The Ducati race bikes still utilize a standard double sided swing-arm with a central mounted mono-shock/damper. I'm actually kind of surprised that this setup is used, even on a street bike, although it is very cool... there is no way that it can be as strong as a double sided swing arm. 'Course, this bike has about 170 hp and the Ducati Corsa GP19 had over 230... 170 hp in a 400lb bike is still insane!!

Anyway, not trying to be a know-it-all, I'm just a huge bike racing and MotoGP fan.

I can appreciate the engineering and design brilliance...but sometimes that doesn't translate into performance
I watchmore F1 vs MotoGp. The engineering, manufacturing and money is insane in both it would seem

Easy to fall into a rabbit hole on the internet looking at photos and reading about them

It's hard to find actual "real" budget amounts for MotoGP teams from the likes of Honda, Suzuki, Ducati etc... But I'm sure the likes of Scuderia Ferrari and AMG Petronas Mercedes spend way more than MotoGP teams. Renting MotoGP bikes (yes, the entire bike) for a satellite (ex. Reale Aventia Ducati) team could cost in the neighborhood of $2-$3 million, which would "usually" be last years bike - more if it's a current ready bike (like what Pramac Ducati get), whereas an engine only deal could be upwards of $10-$20 million for an F1 team (maybe more).

Real world example, Suderia Ferrari spent ~ 1/2 billion $$'s in the 2019 season... and while it's hard to find MotoGP team budgets, I wouldn't be surprised if all the involved manufactures together (Honda, Ducati, Aprilia, Suzuki, KTM, Yamaha) didn't spend $500 million, maybe, but I doubt it.

Dorna have really taken a lot of steps in the last ten years to try and cut costs, one for example, all the teams have to use the same electronic control system - and any change a specific team wants has to be approved by FIM officials, and if approved will be made available to all teams.
Anyhoo, I really like reading about this crap.

Ok, but it is a bit too light for my eye and in comparison to the photo.
I was waffling between the LP yellow and CAT orange/yellow ála Caterpillar Equipment shade.
I had some CAT already mixed from a truck engine project, but the jar is old and icky so I went LP
I went LP and it isn’t right, but it is easier to darken a paint job than lighten it.



On the weekend I am going to do a final coat and darken the yellow more to that CAT colour
I have dumped that jar out, cleaned the jar insides and remixed and diluted yellow+ clear orange+MLT to make the CAT
I could just spray clear orange over this yellow, but might not get perfect colour density and the clears can run on you really easily

I knew what I was doing deciding between two colours.
Logically better to start light and go dark than the other way around
Gotta let it dry fully and it is late here on a school night
And yes from lemon to pumpkin is aptly described.

Gutting. Its just a fraction off and no way you could have known by looking at the paint in the tin. But as you say, easier to darken than the other way around.

Not even a bit of a tummy upset...just more of an indecision
I spray thin layers so have tons of room for more paint and keep the lovely Tamiya moulding details prominent
It won’t be a problem
Sometimes you just don’t know how something will look until you try it on, or paint it ...and then your eye tells you quite quickly

I think that yellow pops more than the darker, and when you get the decals on it will look really good. Maybe not, but I like it.

When you clear it the yellow you have will be cool and bright... but if you don't like it, you need to fix it, right?

As I ponder my next steps, I see the 2K clear coming up. I clean out my spray booth and put down new blue paper liners.
My water trap on the compressor is soaking wet. That means there is a potential for water vapour to be in my a/b lines. If 2k + water vapour occurs as you spray on your clear layers, you are f’d....gives weird circles like fish eyes with silicone. Ruins the clear and build.
Ultimate primers and Tamiya paints won’t be affected, but 2k clear freaks out with water in it.
So I disassemble the trap, dry it off and let it sit open to air overnight to dry more.



Some say not to touch it as if there is water there the trap is doing its job. BS. I need to do more YouTube videos to be THAT smart I suppose and won’t take the risk so dry it out.

No right or wrong here.
I had the shade closer to that pic in mind, but liked the XF-3 shade and it is really easy to spray as a yellow.
So if it was too light, I still had a sound layer for glossier coats to sit on
Your idea was good and I bet that yellow would have been cool 2k’d

Ok I am nearing that step.
I painted a decanted TS pure white and done some strategic grey pinstripes over seat seams
The rear turn signal and plate holder are elegantly designed, but look weird

I don't know but I am really impressed with this build.

Spot on with the yellow Scott and I used the number plate backing that came with the aftermarket set as it looked right the kit part just looked too chunky to me

Popped on some decals before considering doing the clear coat. Will let them dry off a day or so

I bought tape and Tamiya mixing jars. No kits
Actually pondering a 1/32 spitfire for the collection, we shall see if I go get it tomorrow
Delayed gratification and research prices a bit

The tape is yellow silicone stuff for the wheel stripe





Check that. Now I will paint up the wheel black and do the stripe
I also fake wired up the back of the instrument panel

Yes, absolutely.
The magnets work a charm and things hold in place not too tight and not too loose.
I am going to order more of different sizes and will use them in this manner again

Shipping from China has resumed here for sea and air so I orderd a couple of pin vices 2 days ago. Let you know the progress of that. 3 weeks delivery is what I'm hoping for.

Wheel tape efforts ...not perfect but pretty good. Damn tape pulls off paint if I lift it again so it have one shot for placement
Hard to get it into a perfect circle with the narrow rim





Then I tested the tinted windscreen, the seat and the rims....pretty Ha-pay with all this





It looks pretty freaking cool in person

One of my issues is I see ALL the imperfections , we are our worst critics
Sometimes you have to weigh fixing for perfection at great risk of disaster or just accepting as it is

I went back and fixed the one side of the front wheel
It has 0.7mm tape width on it, but the other side and the rear rim had 0.5 mm. I know as I cut it on my laser etched cutting mat
I didn’t think the 0.2mm would be too noticeable , but it was to my eye
So problem solved

I got all the decals and stripes done now, ready for 2k clear tomorrow
Repaired the ripped 1199 part of the decal where the pin stripe tape grabbed it and tore it right off...thankfully there were spare decals on the sheet. Stole the larger Ducati white decal from the tri colour Kit I have

Oh yes the paint, carbon decals and wheel rim detail is superb Scott just superb

Very pro looking wheels and panels/flaring's what ever you call them..
