Cracking figures from Masterbox.

The guy with the hand gestures is obviously on a line shoot. An almost certain de-bagging would have followed in the mess that night!

Yes he wouldn't go astray with a group hugging some beers around a piano.

Really nice so far! Those figures are really going to bring the model to life.

Really an art form to itself
I keep going back adding and removing and screwing things up
Shading and highlights are my nemesis

Figures look cool and that first pic with the ground level view looks great with the Spit behind the pilots. Looks so like the hundreds of pics taken on real airfields 80 years ago.

I've got a 1/32 Spit in the stash and the temptation is strong here.

Got the base green layer down last night


Ak Air Series Dark Green+Ultimate white primer about 70:30 mix.
I wanted it a smidge lighter and I find with the Ultimate in there the paint handles better



Prop and nose painted Ultimate black and then attatched to a mandrel and spun on my dremel.
Got some aluminum ons brush and dry brushed wear and marks by holding the brush into the spinning prop randomly with variable pressure

A lighter motor and a tightly fitted prop looks like it would be more fun.

Freaking thing just about took off my finger even on low speed
The taped on nose flew off and gave some good self inflicted weathering

I did the tail dark earth and my green is wrong...too light almost the same
So I respray with just straight RAF Dark Green and kinda did splotchy coverage for a mottled effect


Hope you can see that. Now it will look better
Next up is the Dark Earth

I have taken them off to spray their dirt shades on first...basically the test mules to see if I like it before committing to the body camo
So far I have gone a darker shade of the dark dirt from AK to a Tamiya XF

So I pushed on and got the camo pattern done last night and this morning
I would love to say I made some perfect paper replicas of the aftermarket sheet’s pattern and applied them cleanly and easily.
Nope: Tamiya tape and normal white paper in a miss mass of higgly piggly taping and blocking off to get something close
Would have been easier to find a copier that could blow up my directions and cut out the pattern...but that would involve some math and a walk downstairs and frankly I am a lazy ass.

So here she is

So if you look at her tail, you can see I have done weathering tests.
I hate the stark paint camo so I am going to weather the hell out of her.
This is my reference build for, a FB posting NOT MY WORK!!!


And these are the tail sections done...portions that get no decals were tested on first. Upper vertical has been weathered, lower horizontal bit has not







So the weathering is:
Home made India Ink wash applied in airflow direction and wiped away in same. This fills black into the surface details
Future clear even layer and hairdryer blown to fully dry. This seals the black in...I care not if you use something else
Ultimate light dirt brushed with airflow direction immediately followed by
Ultimate dark wash in same flow direction, brush cleaned and then excess mopped away in air direction to desired cover
Hairdryer to dry fully to the touch

It is pretty dark and streaky but I like how it mats the paint and gives mood variations
Now time for decals

Looking good so far.

Tummy stencils and decals coming along.
The roundels are giving me fits with tears and not softening to settle in panel lines and details
I have brought out the X20 solvent as my final solution ...just gotta keep away from the paint with it

I am getting there.
I love how decalling brings a build to life

Spiffing good work ole chap. I love the underside that color, just something about it. Dunno why but there it is. Wouldn't mind a side on shot see her in all her glory

I totally agree
In fact bought the kit for the gorgeous belly shot of the wing man pulling away showing her belly
I took some time custom mixing that colour

This is my first time using and entire set of aftermarket decals for an aircraft. I have to say I am having a good go at it. There are lots of stencils, identification and instruction markings as well as the larger obvious decals. They really do add to an aircraft build .
All are in much better shape than 50 yr old Revell kit decals. The aftermarket set is for an early spitfire and I chose its letter designations and general paint scheme.

I wasn't disappointed.

Good call on the new decals. They've really sucked down onto the rivet detail on the fuselage.

But boy it took some work
None of my decal solutions would make them seat, I had to got the the solvent X20A. This can often just melt a decal into nothing, but for these ones multiple applications were fine. I had to Q tip the decals around the rivets and such and thankfully I didn’t tear and spots.

Weathered the top side this Sunday morning
Ultimate dark mostly with some Ultimate light as accents. I dialled back the tail sections by wiping away some with my airbrush cleaner

It's looking really sweet Scott! Very nice work.

Got those decals hammered down nicely and the weathering is showing a well worked machine.

Last night I got the canopies painted, weathered and glued on
Then I started on the car door interior’s details


Tonight I am too pooped out after a work day, dig walks and my evening chores....just gonna be lazy by the fire

Always nice when the glass goes on. I see the pilot is still spinning a yarn!

Great work persevering with the decals mate - that is starting to come alive!

Yes I agree. Decals bring life to a build and these aftermarkets were good so pretty happy

You are definitely not alone in feeling this way - I'm doing virtually nothing at the bench during the week at the moment.

I think there's just a general feeling of being in a bit of a slog at the moment so hopefully things will pick up as we progress into the spring.

Very close to completion for the main subject and the figures
Still a base and diorama to do, but I am pushing a bit as want to take final pics for the live show so we are not “pathetic” again wish I could model 24/7.

So got the radio wire up with some EZ line and Ca glue.
Car door done, mirror painted and attached all detailed and weathered.



Put in the eight Browning gun barrels with some small brass tube...red decals over those still to do

I have broken the tail wheel and the left wheel support. I am planning on a dio with a semi buried landing gear and the left wind down on the turf; the guys standing around talking about it.
