Lovely work bringing that to life mate - the edging work has really added another dimension in making the details pop :th:

Thanks Digger and TC

Did the oil work on the platform. I've gone for oils on the kit (excluding the gun shield) because I think a dirt wash would have been too dark (and also too difficult given the structure of the kit  ). Its a North Africa based color scheme so we are looking at dust rather than mud so I think I can get away with oils.

Then I started on the paint chipping. Using the sponge method I looked at where the paint would have been knocked off edges first then flat surfaces for wear.

I did the platform first, thinking of all those soldiers' boots scuffing up the paintwork as they worked the gun and got it ready for travel or deployment.

Then the gun shield. I'm sol glad I took the time earlier in the build to thin down the edges of the shield. it looks much more like sheet metal now.

Then the wheel units. I will probably do some dry brushing with aluminum to pick out some of the pipe work but it will be very limited.

Finished off with the gun and mount

Nearly there now. A bit more detail work and she'll be done and dusted :th:

Wow Stoskey, that is looking very good! There is just enough wear and use to make it real. The extra time you used to clean up the little things really paid off.

Really great job. A shame that 1/18 (90mm) figures are so expensive for a crew. 21st Century Toys did 1/18 German action figures that could be modified maybe? :th:

There's a lot of resin out there for German figures in 1/18 but its probably just as well there's no crew for the 88. Crew would mean a diorama with a gun emplacement style base. It would be a massive project in 1/18 and I'm on a stash reduction mission this year - I need to get it finished and move on

Cheers Neil. Its just a shame 1/18 is such an odd scale. A kit like this screams out for after market stuff and while I've added some detail, with after market stuff it could be a real show stopper.

I would go so far as to say its the best value kit I have ever built. For the price (£42) I was half expecting a box full of junk but other than seam clean up and some ambiguity in the instructions I have nothing bad to say about it. Stokesy's verdict is - Highly Recommended :th: :th:

Thanks Guys.

I got the crane out and assembled all the bits again

I did a little dry brushing on the crew stations either side of the gun mount, added a little rust paint and called it a day.

FINISHED - thanks for looking in and the comments. It all adds to the enjoyment of the build for me

yep top drawer effort  :  :  :cheers2:

Ps.....I'v actually started looking at 1/16 to 1/18 scale kits. They are pricey beggars one came up today second hand. It was the quad gunned m3 half track and second hand it was 200 . Although like you said your kit can be bought for 55-60 if you look around.

Cheers Digger.

The big scale kits do carry a hefty price tag like you said. The 88's price was an anomaly as far as I can see. Maybe 1/18 just isn't popular. I cant fault the kit though, if you can find one, I'd seriously consider grabbing it.

There are some smaller kits coming out in 1/16. Takom have a few and Amusing Hobby have their 2 Luchs recon vehicles. All highly rated and worth a look.

Yep the lads have already summed it up but I really think that's one of your best yet.

That's properly stunning

All you need to do now is get planning permission to build a garage for it :D
