You and me both, mate!

I tried to stipple medium rust into all the little sunken sections then dry brushed with light rust to bring out the raised sections and structure of the track link's 'footprint'. It was a good feeling to finally get the tracks onto the vehicle. For weeks I've kept thinking, 'I've still got to do the tracks yet!' so its a great they are now attached.

I'm in hog heaven this morning. I breakfasted on hash browns, baked beans, scrambled eggs and bacon. The cricket is on the TV and I'm working on the kit. Not a bad start to the day

I think the tracks and running gear are finished.

I added pigments to the exposed outer track sections (no point doing the whole length as you cant see it and pigments are expensive). I wetted the tracks with thinner and stippled on 3 shades of pigment, using a cotton bud for reduction if necessary.









Then the track edge brackets





I think I mentioned previously I needed to darken the mud effects. A simple black was was applied to muddied areas to calm everything down.



And a before and after shot. You can see the effect, it looks much more 'muddy' versus 'sandy' so I'm happy with the result.





I need to add a little mud to the outer tracks front and rear but that's the tank virtually done. I now need to work on the stowage and the commander figure.

Those tracks look amazing - well done that man!

Cracking work on those tracks mate

Sorry for the delay in updates for old Shermy. Just have not been inclined to pick the kit up. Not sure why, various reasons, most of which don't require alluding to here.

Anyway, just a small update. I got the commander figure ready for painting by adding his left hand which holds the radio mike and adding drill holes for the head and foot so I can mount the chap for priming. Then it was on to the stowage.

I purchased one of Valugear's awesome stowage sets that they brought out especially for the Sherman and started looking at how I can arrange them. I dont know if you are familiar with Valugear but their stuff is superb and very reasonably priced. Its resin so the detail is beautiful. I used their 1/16 Stug set for my recent Stug build and the Sherman set is pretty much similar, only adjusted for US equipment.

Here it is all laid out. The plank that goes on the front of the tank is already in place but this is what you get plus the 2 cans and ammo box top right, those items come with the kit.



I tried various arrangements but I think I am happy with this version.



I checked the turret traverse to make sure the gun and rear of the turret cleared the stowage. Can't have the crew's lunch boxes getting knocked off, can we?











Everything will get a coat of grey primer then I'll spray the crates with a wood base color and brush paint the tarps and detail bits. The large tarp roll and fuel / water cans will be sprayed in their base colors. I'll prime the comander figure too.

Coming along very nicely mate. I think I used Valugear's gear when I did my Fury few years back. Lovely detail even in 1/35 should be awesome in 1/16 . It's real challenge to get it weathered and looking like it's been lobbed on etc. I'm sure you'll crack it

But seriously, I'm thinking some lighter wood tones and variation in the colors used for the tarps. As an allied ground vehicle its well in need of it to compensate for the olive drab.

Yes, their 1/35 stuff is nice too. I have used it on a Sherman before and have some great stuff for Tamiya's LRDG command truck.

I got all the stowage and crew figure mounted for priming. It has finally stopped raining so I have been able to fire up the airbrush and extractor - cant do it in the rain as the hose feeds out the window!



Then it was on with Ultimate Grey over everything then Ultimate Gelb for the wooden boxes. This will form the basis for the boxes and I will add oils for the wood grain and tone. The remainder will be hand painted save for the commander. I will spray the base colour for his face and his field jacket, the rest will be hand painted.



Tomorrow is looking like a painting day again so hopefully a day filled with sport and modelling - HEAVEN!

Sport??? Painting I understand but the sport part does not compute?? Stowage is looking excellent!! Looking forwards to seeing the end result.

Thanks Neil, my main setup is in the 2nd bedroom, that's where I have 2 benches, 1 for building and 1 with the compressor and extractor. However, I can also decamp to the lounge if I am not using the airbrush and can happily model away with the TV on. I'm a big cricket and rugby fan so this time of the year, there's premiership rugger on and the last of the international cricket. Its hog heaven for me as I can sit merrily for hours with 1 foot in each camp.

One of the few advantages of being single is no one can tell me off for making a mess!

With ref to the rain and your window have you looked as these

I've got one and it works for rain, wind and cold. I've use a BV300S-D with the flattened exit hose nozzle, this I grip in the window opening by closing the window back on the nozzle and the window frame. Which leaves a 10mm ish gap, I then zip up the zips and it's sealed.

Thanks Kev, I will look into this. I've just had a quick look on Amazon and it looks like it would work with my window. It would help in the winter too with the general cold, never mind the rain.

You're welcome mate it works a treat keeps the cold out too, to a great extent, do your airbrushing, close the window

Its been a good weekend for the time on the kit and the stowage has come along nicely.

Pretty much there now. Used my set of flesh colors for the commander figure and oils for his uniform and the wooden boxes.











I dirtied the uniform with oils, especially the lower trousers for mud and general grime





Acrylics and washes for the face











He still needs his rank and unit decals and a bit more work on the jacket but that's it.

Stowage all in place









Added the commander's goggles, unit and rank patches and dirtied them up along with the jacket. Really impressed by the goggles, it would have been so easy to have them as one clear piece but there is also a frame to the glass giving the goggles a real 3 dimensional look.

Thanks Phillip, its been a great kit to work on and yes, I'm pleased with how it has turned out. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who fancies a big scale Sherman.
