Looking good Paul. How much is the total cost of all the up grades now mate? I bet it's nearly the weight of a RC model now.

With all the metal work you will be heading towards a scale weight as well. However it's a cracking build and to see all the attention to detail you're putting in is fantastic.

Cheers guys and lol at the C3P0 comment
Had a go at sorting the three PE zimmeritt faults today, the mg hump, and the two sides of the turret, so using superglue i filled the gaps and once dry i use my mini chisel to scribe the zimmeritt lines back and with a quick sand with a sanding stick i gave them a lick of alclad brass, im happy with the turret sides, the mg mount is what it is unfortunately.
Looks a lot better than it did
Spare track holders next, then roadwheels and friul tracks

I wouldn't worry Paul, if you look at real tanks the zimmerit coating took a beating. So having patches where its not "perfect" is probably more realistic anyway.
Its coming on nicely though, almost ready for some paint?

That looks fine Paul, I wouldn't worry about it.
Nice method with the blending the PE... you should consider a "how to" for it... it's pretty sweet. Where did you pick that trick up?

Thanks fellas, yes i know it was never a perfect finish and would have suffered some damage, so no problem for me.
Not far from painting gav, as ive said before i want a pic of it all assembled before any paint touches it.
Coen, i didnt pick it up anywhere really, when i first applied the zimmerit and saw it had left ridges, my first thought was to use filler like vallejo etc, that didnt work to well so i thought ill use superglue and i kind of winged it form there lol

Lol coen.
Got some more done this afternoon.
Sorted the spare track link holders on the turret sides.
Sadly as this is a mish mash dragon kit, it doesn't cater for the single piece tracks of the later tigers (the earlier tigers had two different parts to the tracks, so had 8 double link spare tracks) the later ones have 12 single spare links and require more holders, the actual holders are fine, but there are not enough of the actual tracks "locks" so I'll need to get some square plasticard strips, Sod's law the only plasticard I don't have. I've left a couple of links off as well as removed one of the hangers too, to give it that "used" look. Tracks are not affixed yet and will be removed for weathering etc.
Also got the royal models mg34 and mount together one real tricky sob to bend, glue and attach.mlooks really good especially the gun sight. Not fully attached in position I was just eager to see how it looked.

I love those little MG kits. They add so much with so little.
You're right about fiddly though... errrg. I've got sausage fingers so PE and I are never on speaking terms.
Yours turned out beautifully.
Man that's going to be a heavy model. Seriously... you should weigh her when she's done.
Just curious.

Coen i too have sausage fingers, but dont struggle too much. Its a nice mg, with lots of detail, i was going to use the supplied ammo bag, but after chatting to my mate nige, we decided ammo boxes would look better, so i have a griffon models PE ammo box and belt ammo, ill have on the turret roof.
Anyway the road wheels are all glued together and temporally attached to the chassis, along with the friul replacement front drive sprockets.
I then set to work on the friul tracks.
The neccesary tools and components.
Each link (and theres 210) needs to be drilled through both locating hinge points to ensure its free from excess metal. Only one is cleared all the way through, the other has a stop end as such. I used a .05mm drill bit.
The supplied wire is then fed through the tracks linkage holes until it reaches the stop at one end.
Once it hits the end i pul it back out a mm or two and snip the wire, pushing it fully home hiding the wire end. The instructions call for superglue to be used to secure the wire in place, i found this set didnt require any.
Two completed working links.
Approx 30 mins later a 23 link section is complete, ill do several sections this big and then join them together when needed as i find them easier to manipulate in shorter length's.
Still another 180 links to do

I know, such a shame to paint it, but this,is where the real fun begins.
I'm going to attach the tow ropes , cleaning rods, and tools to the left hand side tomorrow, the tanker commander will be built and with the mg and antenna attached ill get some proper pics of it fully assembled, and I reckon that'll become my new avatar.
Then it's back to bits and on with the painting.

I've also just had what I think is a scary/good idea.
Imagine masking one side of the tank of right through the middle, including the barrel turret etc
Complete camo'ed and weathered, one side, totally untouched the other.
Hmm I think it would be a lot of work, not sure.......

Hi Paul,
sorry if question I want to ask was already answered before.
Do you anneal photoetched parts when you work with them (before glueing them to model ofc

) ?

Radek

I would only anneal them if I needed them to conform to a specific shape ie aircraft seatbelts etc

I am sorry but I am not sure the shell casing works with the rest of the model as it stands. If all the hatches were open and the tank placed in a fixed 'hull down position' diorama then empty cases scattered around would work. But as you have it in a buttoned up finish then any used casings would be stored inside until a lull in the action would allow them to be chucked out. Of course in the end the final call will be yours but you did ask for opinions, I hope mine is of use!
