Looks good Coen. Question mine will be Sand yellow colored for Iraq. What color is best to prime it? Will AK's Dark yellow work? Or should i do something else? Primer colors is still confusing to me. Thanks.

I always prime light grey so I can use black as a pre-shadow colour.

It kinda depends on what "system" you want to use to paint your model Devon.
If you go with the yellow primer you would then probably want to hit all the panel lines and other recessed details with some black paint for the preshadeing.
If you go with a grey primer... same thing. But you'll have a slightly different colour for your base coat of paint. The grey will effect it differently being not as dark as the black.
If you prime in black you only have to post shade with the yellow paint, but that's a bit harder to do. I did it on my abrams tank.
Mostly it's a preference plus paint shade preference.
Myself I usually go with painting the thing with a black or burnt umber primer, them post shade the base colour.

Yup... It is the tamiya corsair.
I'm doing it as part of a buddy build with Aaron Newlands and Alex of AlexModelling.
I was't planning on any vids or photos of it. It's just for fun now.
I had a grand plan for a new kind of buddy build on youtube but when my hard drive went boom poofy poofy all the footage went with it.
A few hours worth of build and chatting.
So I gave up on the idea.
I'll be painting it on the weekend and putting it on the shelf. I'll probably take a few pics of it and put it in the aircraft section here on the forum.

When you get a chance we should catch up.

Here's todays bit of work.
Got the base paint on and the camo colour, The base coat is as close as I could get with the colours that I had, but it's not that important as it will have the desert camo over most of it.
Next will be the desert camo... I'm not sure what colour I'll use to make that yet. I can't find a consistent colour in any picture that I've found yet. They're all a bit different. I'm not going to trust a colour chart as they're usually not corrected for scale.
I may use this colour though... I like the look of it best.

I finally added the camo layer. I was originally going to us either the maskol or maybe the hairspray method to do some chipping but I've never had any real luck with either and I've never much liked the look of it on my work. So I'll stick to the old fashioned method of sponge and paint chips.
I've masked off some of the ERA blocks to make things look interesting and to represent blocks that had been changed in the field and yet to be painted.
I've done the same with the wheels to show some that have been changed out but not painted.

The thing you have to remember Coen is that in modern times there isn't a shortage of paint, as there was in WW2. And so the British vehicles are painted their desert sand colour over the green/black as you have done. But the tonal differences between vehicles will be due to the amount of paint added, rather than the shade of the paint. I plan on painting my side skirt armour just over a grey primer. But the main vehicle will get painted green first, then have the sand over it. This will give the side skirts a cleaner look, due to the fact that they are painted sand in the factory before addition to the vehicle (as most when in the UK don''t wear their up armour kits). So the tonal difference will be due to the addition of the light paint over a dark base.

But yours looks good. What colour did you use for the sand colour? Tamiya callout suggests their TS-46 spray can, but I can't find a pot equivalent!

I'm just going by what I saw in the photos. I'm not interested in how real it is. It looked pretty real in the photo.
I put the sand paint over the green so I could use my fibreglass pen to add wear marks. So far it's working pretty good. I can rub off sand paint and partially expose the green and black/grey underneath. It's not chipping so hairspray isn't any good.
I used Vallejo Air light brown with a few drops of Vallejo Air armour sand. It seemed to match another picture that I'm using that has better more natural lighting.
Looks cool so far.

I started to slap together a few of the bits and pieces that I lugged home yesterday. The figures and the barricade stuff mostly. I was considering adding some stowage to the chally, but according to Paul's mate Nige Challys didn't really carry any. The photos that I've seen seem to confirm this, mostly a couple of tarps or the odd pack or two. They aren't completely covered in stuff like US tanks of the time. I may yet still add a few small things, a tarp or two and maybe a pack if I have one. Mostly for visual interest sake.

The challenger herself has had a fibre glass pen taken to her and some of her yellow rubbed away. I like the effect, it pretty much did what I wanted to do. With a bit of chipping and a few tiny rust streaks she should start to come around to the way I want her to look.

I haven't decided how I'm going to position the figures yet, but I'm partial to having one in the commanders hatch and the other standing behind him.
