My aim is not to make anybody look bad. My skills aren't good enough to do so. I'd rather like to motivate people to build their own stuff. If I can manage to do this, I'll be the luckiest man on earth.
I'm glad that there's still enough time for this GB. So many things to do.
I read your question(s) on your thread and I'm sorry to say that I've got no idea about filters. So I can't tell you which to do first. I guess there are many experts around and I'm interested in the answer, too.

That's ok mate. I have the set of Sin Filters and have used them once or twice, but I have never managed to use them in a way I am entirely happy with, and if I can't be confident I am using them correctly, and the right tone for what I want to achieve on this build then I will just not bother, as I haven't the time to go back and forth correcting mistakes on this build. I would like to actually finish a GB, as its been a while.

Built the door for the office. On the last pic the lower hinge is missing, but I've fixed that. I also built the frame. On the finished building the door will be open, of course.

Thanks a lot, Andy! Noted it myself and have already drilled three nice holes into the door, small on the outside, bigger on the inside. And I scratched the edges to make them look like splintered wood. Maybe I'll take pics and put 'em up later. My galfriend's about to come home and I'm running out of time. NO!

Alright, here's that door again! This time WITH bullet holes. And again some dry fitting with the stairs. Since I don't have a photo studio the pictures I take using lamps are a little reddish. Didn't want to wait till tomorrow though!

I failed! I failed miserably! I wasn't able to make tools (files, wrenches, screw drivers) myself. And I was tempted not to build a toilet bowl, 'cause I found one for € 3.50!!! So I ordered: PE tools, Aber, A35A068 and Toilet bowl, PlusModel, PLEL065, incl. p&p € 18.-! That's more than "okay"!

But I worked a lot on the windows for the ruin today. One is finished, the others' edges need to be sanded even and to size. I made them a little larger than they needed to be. After that I'll cut the clear plastic so that it looks like broken glass. All door and window frames are built and primed.








Last but not least I finished building the missing wing of the workshop door.

At least tiling will happen! I looked at some after market stuff, but there was nothing I really liked, so I'll have to make them from plastic sheet.

Now you're making me cry! I built a door, compared to yours - mine blows ass. And I was making windows and now I see yours and am throwing my junk out - just give me your address and a paypal account name and Ill ship you my diorama and pay you for doing it for me.

A washbasin/sink! That was necessary!!! The tab's from Tamiya's German fuel drum set #35186. And while editing the pics I noticed that this window frame needs some filling!




The sink is 14 x 15 x 8 mm. I didn't take pics of the build this time, because it only consists of six parts. It would've taken more time to take photos than to just build it. Next time then!

I'm (almost) sorry for putting up pics again, but a friend from my YT community challenged me yesterday. I'll build the remainders of a brick outhouse for this dio and he dared me to build a toilet paper roll dispenser. I thought that wasn't possible for that scale and I slept badly due to that. Well, I gave it a try though and found out that it IS possible! Here you go! It is 4 x 7 mm and the (real!) toilet paper is 3 mm wide. That was a fun build!






Maybe this GB is too long, 'cause people - including myself - begin to have crazy ideas!

No it isn't too long
with most GB's we see a 60% rate of finished builds at the end
so some people need more time (life can get in the way of the hobby)

I was only joking, Mark! In fact I'm glad that it's till the end of April. The plans I made when the GB started take some time. I'm quite up to what I wanted, but if it was finished by the end of March, I'd be f*cked!

Just outstanding. I'm hoping you get round to doing some scratch build tutorials as I'm heading to youtube to subscribe to your channel. The attention to detail and your innovation is incredible. Really looking forward to seeing the end result. I'm sure it will be a work of art.

Thank you so much, Willem! I hope I'll manage to deliver a good job here. And then I'll do the tutorials. I want to encourage fellow modelers to built stuff themselves now and then. To me there's much more satisfaction than in buying everything and "just" glue it together, hehehe!

I'm overwhelmed by your comment, honestly! Thank you very much! There'll be more to come, that's for sure. Tomorrow I'll have finished building the windows and will then beginn to do the "lights" in the workshop including the wiring. And I'll build a grinding machine. With this building the workshop should be done. And the name is Jens, not Sir, please! My dad would be "Sir", but he doesn't want to be called like that either, hehehe. I'll re-sub as soon as I got your YT channel's name.

Hi, guys! I've just finished the build of my factory ruin! All that's left to do is making a drain pipe from a plastic straw and the mounting for it from aluminium foil and copper wire. But that's something I'll build extra and attach it later!

First of: I completed the windows! Some fiddly job, but I'm really happy with the result. All I can do to ruin them is by doing a bad paint job. Well, that's some serious danger here!




The workshop needed "light" and both office and workshop needed wiring. I almost forgot that and in the end I must say it was the worst bit of work on the whole model. Took me way too long to have good feelings about it, but it's done and it looks okay to me.







That concludes the build and now I can start painting the interior of the workshop - at last!!!

Some more progress on my ruin. Drain pipe built and mounted! It's primed and base coated, but the lighting is too bad for taking pictures now! Rain, rain, rain...






My order arrived today and the toilet bowl is ready for priming and painting! Altogether a good day!

Alright, the cute little toilet is base coated and ready for weathering respectively painting "woodgrain". Haven't built a resin kit since around 1999 and I was surprised how smooth painting works on those parts, even with a paintbrush. I'm looking forward to doing the more "serious" work on the "super bowl"!



Then I couldn't keep my hands off of the hand tools kit. Actually I only wanted to use some of the tools, but there's a tool box, too, and I wanted something to place under the work bench. Well, I started building it. I don't have any PE bending tools, but bending was easy with the tools I have. This is my first encounter with a PE kit ever. Would you believe it?




I was definitely too careful with cleaning up the parts! You can see the gaps here. I wanted the box to be closed. Only one lid should be open.



The build became a pain in the arse with all the fiddly parts! When you followed the thread so far you know that I don't mind working with tiny little parts, but those are parts I made myself and could easily be reproduced. These parts were in danger to get severely damaged or eaten by the "carpet monster"! If you keep in mind that this is a rather easy model, you won't believe how much I "hated" the build. PE and me will never (?) make friends! Anyway, I finshed the box and to me it doesn't look too bad, but wait!





I primed the box and I did that with well diluted enamel paint and a paintbrush. That piece was too tiny to use the rattle can! That's what I thought, but I'm not quite sure if that was the right decision. I'll see that in the next step of the paint job!




It took me almost four (!!!) hours to build the tool box. A lot of time for a piece that'll stand underneath the work bench and of which won't be seen very much. I'm sorry for my bad temper, but I haven't got any patience and the build drove me mad to say the least!

Tomorrow I'll be busy mostly with painting. That'll calm me down a lot, because it's one of my favourite things in modeling. Take care! Jens

Hi, guys! As I said yesterday: Painting calms me down! I made my peace with the tool box. It got its base colour (blue), got a clear coat and a dark wash. I like the way it looks now.





Dry brushing, some chipping and metal sheen will follow. And I'll add three or four tools to make it look complete.

Then I worked on the bench. The vice was painted blue and the whole thing got a flat coat. After that I applied a dark wash. I'll finish it up the same way I'll do with the tool box.



Then I painted the toilet bowl and "my heart was bleeding"! I wanted it to look like a toilet that's been used a lot but rarely cleaned. I think that's exactly whát it looks like now!





The wooden parts were painted with Tamiya XF-59, desert yellow. Then I painted "woodgrain" onto them with heavily diluted XF-10, flat brown, and XF-1, flat black, in a wiggly motion. A flat clear coat followed. Then I used burnt umber oil. I covered both parts and blended them till the base colours became visible.




That's how far I got with stuff I already can show you. Other things will have to wait till I've got sort of result, because now there in the middle of nowhere.

Hi, guys! Finally I started weathering the inside of the factory ruin. I want to finish it till the end of the week. I worked mainly with pastels and I put on a dark layer onto some areas of the wallpaper. This is only the first step and will be lighter when it's finished.



The workshop's walls got a medium dark wash that didn't exactly turn out the way I wanted it, but still was a good base to work with. After dry brushing it twice with white acrylics, I applied the same pastels I used for the office, but I was more generous here, 'cause I want the workshop to look dirty. Here it's the first step, too, and it will look different when I'm done with it. The last picture shows some dry fitting with the bench and the drill.





I forgot to mention that I painted the wiring. Some dry brushing with a dark grey will follow. The door's frame needs to be painted, too, but I wanted to finish the white dry brushing first.

Lighting was really difficult today, because I need daylight to take pics, but it's snowing. I tried to edit the pictures as good as possible, but that's all I was able to do.

I finished the bench. Scratches were done with black and metallic grey acrylics and a soft pencil. Some light rust was applied with red brown. The parts of the vice that usually aren't painted got a black base coat and were then dry brushed with metallic grey and rubbed with the pencil. Then I "glued" some graphite powder around the vice and the lower shelf using flat clear enamel. The tool box is glued into place, too. You can't really look into the open lid, but nonetheless I'll put some tools in there as soon as they're painted.





Then I continued working on the toilet bowl. It needed a tank to flush the thing - although it looks like it wasn't used very often, hehehe! Don't know what these tanks looked like outside Germany at that time, but in my country they looked like this one here. When I was a kid my grandparents had one in their bathroom and I remember it well! It was loud, but it was fun! I flushed the toilet very often for just that reason!!!








I put several layers of crystal clear window colour into the bowl to represent. The last layer hasn't cured yet. That's why it still is white.

At the moment I'm working on the ruin walls. Maybe I'll put up some pics later!

Hi, guys! This was a successful day for me! Except for the door and window frames I finished the weathering of the ruin! I used different oils to apply streaks to the brick wall. On my "professional" palet you can see burnt umber, purple red, raw Siena, yellow ochre, lemon yellow and white. I applied "random" dots of the different colours to the wall and used mineral spirit to wash them off in vertical downward strokes. I did that a second time only using the lighter colours. For the edges I only used lemon yellow and white.








Then I took care of the bullet holes. I painted the upper three quarters with black oil and the lower quarter with white oil. I blended the colours carefully and used vertical downward strokes to represent rain marks.




Next step was imitating rust around the broken I-beams and the joints between I-beams and the workshop wall. It doesn't look that strong in reality, so the pics are a little decieving. I used my "red wash", Tamiya XF-64 (red brown), burnt Siena oil and two different red brown pastels for that job. As you can see I added a mirror above the wash basin! That's just a piece of .5 mm plastic sheet and some aluminium foil.





The wallpaper got some treatment with diluted yellow ochre and lemon yellow oils. That's finished, too, then.




Some impressions of the drain pipe I made from a plastic straw!





Last, but not least the finished paint job and complete assembly of the dirtiest loo of all times! I'm not sure if I'll add some "water" to the tank. Most likely not, because I imagine the water supply to be interrupted due to the bombing of Berlin.



As soon as all residues of the mineral spirit have evaporated, the wall will recieve a last coat of flat clear spray and will then be glued onto a seperate base. The whole ruin will be glued to the dio base later. Hope you liked the (tons of) pics!

Thank you very much, mate! I didn't know it either, but I looked for one on my favourite German online modelshop's website AND.... they had one! Really ONE, because it was the last they had at that time. It was only € 3.50 and that was too cheap to build one from scratch, hehehe!
