Got the wheels pretty much shaped out from Evergreen sheet styrene



Trim the circles together and then cut out the middle of one and re-glue it all


Now working on the cross member support

Gross rainy Sunday. I spent the morning at the office organizing myself for the week and now got to modelling after a soggy dog walk.
More extra parts rough outs.
Bottom to top:
Front lower wing flaps, modifying radiator for the Viper and both rads will get brass tops, landing gear and rear wing assemblies progressing

I'v been watching if not posting. Interesting what your doing there. I'm very curious how you tackle all the up and coming problems.

Now seeing you make the wheels from wood, I’m pretty sure I have seen this done on real aircraft. It was either for moving them around or they had run out of rubber tyres but I’m pretty sure I have seen pics of them on planes. Can’t remember if it was German if allied planes or where I had seen it. So I don’t think I could be any more vague

Interesting and not surprising they did i that with wood in WWI...likely run out of everything!
Mine are just styrene and cut on the Dremel at the same time to get them precisely the same size.

Awesome work as always Scott - love the extra detail you've added with the scratch building.

Well my mojo for modelling in general is at an all time low
Work stress has me by the cajoles and I am zapped of energy after a day. My assistant is hurt, I have to go in early and stay late every day to set up and organize for the next day. Basically doing my job and a half and never know who I am getting to assist me day to day. Freaking stressful!!!

Weekends are busy with kids and such, but when I do have spare time just can’t seem to motivate myself to get up into the nerd lab and do some modelling. I need to pick up the airbrush and get some final colour on the main plane, ho-ing tonight. Just do it as they say.
Kinda choked at myself as I had a good few builds over the summer and thought I could get to 10 finished models this year

I know exactly where you're coming from Scott, my work life balance for the last few years is definitely out

I'm sure it will pass and you're be back at the bench again soon

For what it's worth my advice, don't try too hard and set yourself up to fail by trying to ram in the bench time. All you'll get is more peed off and stressed when you can't and so it goes on a vicious circle Just take the time and when the work and other commitments are done the time for the bench will return as will your mojo

Relax take time out the kit will and the rest of us will still be here when you return

I managed to prime as many wing and body parts for both planes today, so actually did something and will let that dry a day or two
Then I painted another Koi fish abstract....this is an "Asagi" type that is blue, red and white. Still more to detail on him

I was away for work again for part of last week which didn't help but even when I got to the bench on Saturday I spent 30 minutes screwing things up and getting annoyed with myself and just gave it up as a bad job.

Didn't even try yesterday and spent the afternoon with Mrs T getting slowly drunk in front of a couple of movies instead.

Nice work on the Koi art though - would love to see that when you've finished it off.

No mate, I don't force my art upon her . You guys are the only ones I have shown any art to other than my artist daughter.
These art messes just kind of force their way out of me and I make a private pile or put them in my model room

I started Saturday with an overall desk tidy, parts organize and set up for priming things on clips and such
When I got done cleaning and organizing , I was ready to actually fire up the airbrush, which spluttered and clogged immediately so I had to grab another...then strip down both
But I got all the parts primed up and feel better about moving the project forward again.
All starts with cleaning and a tidy space seems to motivate me

Pretty low end Christmas but looking forward to a short ski trip to frollock with the dog in the snow

I took some photos of the all primed main build...I guess there is a bit of progress
Having trouble deciding if I go greener or browner with the paint. The second fuselage is very olive green, so maybe green/brown

Now that's good and well on the way to getting there

The colour your looking for is PC10 as you know, WNW give this as Tamiya XF62 x2 & XF10 x1. Having done some research for my own planned builds take a look at Vallejo 887 Brown Violet think is now called US Olive Drab or which I'm leaning towards mainly because I've not used their paint MRP, PC-10 Early (WWI R.A.F.) MRP-252 and PC-10 Late (WWI R.A.F.) MRP-253.

I've got several British WNW kits to build that are both early and late, I've heard nothing but good things about this paint, does anyone know different?

A high standard indeed and about half way there. The finish is in sight.

I've seen them a couple of times now and they definitely look greener rather than browner to the eye - they are replicas rather than restorations but I would suspect they've done their homework. More info on their aircraft here if it's useful.

Edit: Did some more interwebbing and here's a link to the Shuttleworth Collection's SE5 as well here

From the digging about I was doing it looks like PC10 was a formula sent to the operational units to mix up in the field so there were wide variations depending on the quantities of Eye of Newt and Wing of Bat added on any particular day.

@Kevthemodeller I think @Quax was experimenting with MRP paints on his bomber build earlier this year but I might have got that wrong. I've only seen good things about them too - the only thing putting me off at the moment is that I think they're lacquer based.

Work kinda has me off the rails for a while yet still.

Yep ditto mate...Home from work, kids chauffeured, chores, dog, computer surf, dead tired, bed. No workbench in there at all
I did manage to watch “ Rush” last night with my wife...Ron Howard's Movie about Hunt vs Lauda. Good movie, a bit over dramatic but cool.

She is back out of her box and being worked on as of Dec 22
Vickers machine gun painted and two props with their base and first oil layer on


Fuselage is all painted now top and bottom and I have completed her tail..actually rebuilt it from scratch




Then got all the last bits PC-10 painted and got the proper landing gear on.


Also got the landing gear wiring done with EzLine, a metal eyelet and a brass turnbuckle

Shout out to Tom Grigat for eyelet and wiring tutorials

I'm enjoying this build. Hang in there the mojo will kick in sometime.

Great to see this one back out of the box again - hope you manage to get some time in over the next few days
