Looks good. Nice detail with the missing fender and showing the oxide colour underneath. Looking forward to seeing the oil filter work on those lovely flat slabs or armour.

Thanks everyone!
Today I did some oil dot filtering and streaking. It's my first time trying this. I think I'm feeling a little mixed about the results. I definitely applied too many dots of paint to each area. It toned down the Tamiya Red Brown 2, which I've always felt was too dark. I also think I need to add in some darker streaks. I'll let this layer dry and go back to work on it. Hopefully it shows up well enough in this picture.

Great looking build joe, love the camo. weathering looks great. I find it better to do a bit then come back to it the next day with a fresh pair of eyes and add layer by layer.

Thanks Casper. I had to laugh at myself yesterday. I started the chemo to prepare for my last lymphoma treatment (CAR-T cell therapy) almost 4 weeks ago so I haven't done very much modeling for most of that time, being in intensive care for a couple weeks and at home feeling like a clog in the shower drain for the last week. I dug this out yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I thought that I had added so many oil dots that everything ended up mixing into a single colored filter rather than feint modulated streaking. I definitely needed to have snuck up on it rather than have been so heavy handed all at once, but it came out looking pretty good in my opinion. One major thing that I wanted to accomplish with the dot filter was to tone down the XF-90 Red Brown 2. It's such a dark, dominating color. I managed to accomplish that as well. So now it's on to chipping and scratches.
Thank you Digger!
P.S. - Thank you everyone for your support and kind words.
P.P.S. - Thanks everyone for posting your WIPs. I very much enjoyed my time pouring over them while stuck in the hospital.
P.P.P.S. - Given the severity of the side effects from the treatment while in intensive care, all indications are that this treatment is doing what it is supposed to be doing. We'll do a scan in around 3 weeks and see for sure.
P.P.P.P.S - Anyone else have over a million USD in medical bills so far this year?

Wow! I don't remember making that last post. Sorry if it was TMI for anyone.
I guess I should post the results of the treatment. I had a total response to the treatment, which means the cancer is gone and has a 40-60 percent chance of staying gone. I couldn't have received better news. The modified cells should reproduce forever so if the cancer shows up again they should kill it off.
I was finally able to do some more work on the Jagdtiger. First off, I used some black/brown oil paint to add some contrast around the hatches and vents.
JT 62 by
Big Wall, on Flickr
I also painted and installed the exhaust. I tried a different method of painting the exhaust this time. I first painted it Tamiya XF-15 Flat Flesh then sponge painted Tamiya XF-9 Hull Red over it. Lastly, I applied a wash of black/brown oil paint. I'll probably add some rust pigments over this when applying the final weathering. I would do some things differently if I painted an exhaust this way again but I'm pleased with how it came out.

Here's another update to the forum's latest group build project!
I've been working on the chips and scratches. I completed the light chipping on the whole model and started on the deep chips. I finished one side and almost scrapped it. I reminded myself that sometimes it looks worse before it looks better and did some rust effects on a section to see how it would come out.
Here is a photo of just the light and deep chips and scratching.
JT 66 by
Big Wall, on Flickr
I thought it came out way too heavy. Which it probably is.
Here is a small section with the rust effects applied over the chips and scratches.
JT 67 by

It calmed me down a bit and actually looks ok. It covered up the stark contrast of the light gray metal color. I'll continue on.

Looks good to me. Just think of these things smashing through buildings and forests, they're gonna get the **** scratched out of the paint finish.
And as for the skirts, the crew should count themselves lucky most of them are still attached!

Thanks for the encouragement! I agree, but I really went way too heavy with the scratches on this side. It amazes me that with as little use as these got at the end of the war, one really doesn't see pictures with the fenders intact. My brother said that when he was in the army, the tanks were all scratched and beat up from the drivers hitting stuff.

I'm getting a bit better with brush control now for the chips and scratching. There's still definitely room for improvement but I'm happy with my progress.
On my health front, there's a little cancer rearing it's head again. We're going to do 10 radiation treatments over a 2 week period and that will hopefully wipe it out. I have to laugh, There aren't many people that have ever been in my situation so oncologists all over the country are involved with and/or following my treatment. I don't know why it makes me laugh. It's just seems silly I guess.

I heartily agree with Keith's comments and hope you continue to post through out the treatment if you can of course.

Thank you as well! The radiation treatments should clean up what's left. It's not uncommon to have to do radiation treatment after the chemo treatments. I'm just "rare" in that not many people have gone thru the cellular therapy and very few of them have needed the radiation therapy after that so I'm a rare subject. The radiation oncologist doesn't expect me to have any side effects due to the radiation levels being so low. In about 3 months I'll probably have some fatigue and hopefully that's it.

I made it thru the radiation treatments (10 of them over 12 days (I got the weekend off)). I was warned that a couple weeks after the treatments, some fatigue would set in and boy did it ever. Long story short, I quit my job and am taking some time to heal from 2 years of beating the heck out of my body with cancer treatments.
I was finally up to doing some work on models. I'm working on the tow and track cables and pioneer tools.
JT 72 by
Big Wall, on Flickr
Here's where the model sits over all right now. I need to finish up with the chipping, mostly just on the top side of the model. After that will be a bit more weathering and wrapping it up. I can't believe it has taken this long but I guess there's really been a lot going on in real life for me.

Only just caught up on this thread, life having got in the way - damned amazing read!!!
First and foremost - congratulations on beating the Big C!! Not an easy or pleasant job (my wife is recovering from Bowel Cancer) so again my heartfelt congratulations!!! Take it easy and build back slowly.
The kits also an amazing job - loved the way the exhausts turned out and the weathering - I am lost for words!! I wish my very best efforts were even a fraction as good!! You have rekindled an old desire though - as a lad a cousin in Chicago sent me a book called "Tiger" that left me ever since wanting to own the full set of Tigers:
Tiger 1
Tiger 2
Jagd Tiger
Schturm Tiger
Tiger (P) Elefant
My wallet fingers are now itching again....
Work-wise - do you have an Amazon centre near you? If the US is like the UK its not a bad place to be. I've been with them since last Nov, at 64 my health is so screwed its untrue but they hired me and, where other places would have got rid of me Amazon have fallen over backwards to accommodate me. Its a 4 day week, nominally 10.5 hour/day inc. breaks - they've cut me back to 8 hrs and I get a 5 minute break every hour. Pays just over minimum wage. If you've got one near you might be worth an ask when you are ready??

I'm glad to hear your wife is doing well!
I remember you mentioning your Tiger project idea before. It would be a fun for sure.
The exhaust was actually pretty easy. It's a technique I saw on YouTube. First I painted them with Tamiya flat flesh (XF-15), then I sponged on Tamiya hull red (XF-9) and then added hull red with a brush to areas I couldn't reach with the sponge. I then just covered that with a black brown oil paint wash. You could also start by painting them hull red and applying hairspray before the flat flesh and then chipping in the rust areas.
Amazon was actually one of our customers at my last job. They're known for treating their people pretty poorly here. It's definitely an option though. I know we have at least 5 or 6 distribution centers here in town. I think I can find an office job that will be what I need for now.
