Yeah it was a real PITA, both to build, and to paint. Thankfully, if you take away the close up photography, you have to get really close to see it with the naked eye.

But thanks for pointing it out :th:

Nice progress mate - glad you got the tyres sorted out.

It's moving along really well and you'll soon be in danger of having to take the cockpit masking off :D

Have taken a day off as the Ryder Cup is on today and over the weekend.

It was time to get down and dirty with Ultimate's dark dirt wash.

Its amazing how far this stuff goes and I always end up pouring a decent amount back into the bottle.

Image

Image

I cleaned it up with dampened tissue paper, trying to leave a sheen on the surface and buildup in any corners, panel lines and rivets.

I peeled off the canopy masks and they have done their job well, I'm glad to report

Now properly attached. You can see the tank and some of the aircraft skin is too shiny. I will mist some matt varnish over the areas where the gloss is showing through the wash.

A couple of beauty shots

Still a few bits to do but definitely on the home straight now.

Thanks Matthew

I reckon I'm done.

Matt coat applied, nav lights and aileron balances added, dust applied to wheels and radio mast added.

I'm calling this done. As ever, thanks for looking in and making the thread all the better for it. I appreciate the kind words, encouragement and banter. It just increases my enjoyment of the hobby and for that I will always be grateful.

Stokesy44-Great job on the BF-109! You can really see all the work you put in. The Afrika desert paint scheme has always been my favorite for the "F" model of the BF-109. Well done!

Great build and the finial weathering really pulled it together for the subtle touch.

Thanks Phillip. Its my first Axis desert scheme. I have a 1/32 Hurricane IIc that is finished in desert camo, maybe I'll do some dual pics just to show them contrasted against each other.

Thanks Digger. I'm itching to build a tank now! Subtle is good but sometimes one just needs to build an iron brute and cover it in mud!

That's a real beauty. I especially like the weathering and the subtle hint of European cammo showing through the desert colours.
Lovely job, Stokesy.

Thanks Steve. I confess any references to a European camo scheme are purely accidental. I'm not that clever!

Thanks Paul, Its a nice kit to build. Compared to the new Kotare release I'm sure it lacks detail but its still a great kit for the price.

Thanks mate, I'm really glad I went for the painted insignias, They turned out to be well worth the effort.
