Wingy things in 1/32, 1/35 and 1/48. Chocks away old chaps. Keep an eye out for some funky stuff in the large scales.

And some movie Sci-Fi, advised by Ranger Neil,
Moebius have announced the release of a large scale (1/72) version of their Space clipper from the film 2001:A Space Odyssey. Indicated price is US$ 172.99 however The Cult TV man online store is listing them at US$147.99.
The kit comes with detailed pilot and passenger sections but NO decals.
A set of Pan Am decals with all the stenciling is available separately for US$17.99
Its not cheap, but what an icon.

Not so much a new kit release, rather some news from a leading manufacturer.
It looks like there are major changes at DRAGON and they are no longer going to be issuing kits. The announcement is a bit unclear (to me at least) but it looks like it is shifting its entire focus.

I think the name has gotten a bit tarnished, but if they go back to what they were when building their reputation. Then look out, but if it's just a excuse to trot out old kits with a couple of bits like a 3d jack then I'll be like...MEH !

That kind of news, if true, will make individual stashes even more important. But look at the timeline to accomplish this type of conversion for most manufacturers will occur long after I’m gone. I think it will all be about economics ( read market versus profit margins).

If they are going to do that then they would have to really find a edge, because as stated there are many many files and manufacturers already doing it. Some aren't so good, but plenty are good enough and many are even free.

This is a cool kit, but the price is stratospheric
There is further news and clarification from Dragon. It appears the kit business is to be transferred to another firm and will continue as before. Dragon itself will follow a different path along the lines we have already discussed.

Breaking news from Revell - they are planning on releasing a 1/32 Harrier. No news on a release date or price yet but they are taking a leaf out of Kotares Halifax project book and inviting input at every stage of the development

If its anything like their Typhoon it will be amazing but at that price its not something I would even consider.

For example. I have Tamiya's 1/32 Mosquito in the stash and that kit currently retails for £200-230. The aircraft are not directly comparable as the Dorner will have more interior detail due to its layout and crew stations but I have looked at the cost of resin replacements for the Mossie and you can get 2 resin Merlins including engine nacelles, pipework and mounts, nose machine guns position including ammo belts and bins and bulkhead and replacement cannons including belts and housing for the bomb bay, all for £110 extra.
That still puts it at about half the price of the Dornier..... just saying.

Interesting way of releasing a kit. I guess it helps them target the release for maximum interest as well as generating interest along the way. I at first thought it was because costs have risen a lot and comparing to a kit like the Tamiya Mossie which was released 11yrs ago the cost base is hugely different. However if you think of the HK models 1/32 Lancaster released 5yrs ago that is only approx 245 bp not over 600, makes you think there is a hefty margin built in.

Here's a really nice out of the box build video of the new Airfix 1/24 Me 109G-6
Its a great video in that the kit is always the focus, there's no extra talky bits or cutaways, just a great watch of the build.

When this G version of the 109 was released I thought it would be nice if someone did a side'by-side build with the old E version first released when I was a lad. If I had the space to put them I'd do it - sadly I don't.

Good call.
If I remember correctly it was a good kit with some glaring omissions. Same as the P51 and Spitfire, there were no wheel wells, just holes in the wings, no detail at all.
But it looked like a 109E and was representative of Airfix in their heyday.

Tell me about it. I've got a thing for the B/C version of the Mustang and don't get me started on the need for some decent Star Wars kits.
Don't get me wrong, Bandai Star Wars kits are great but I would kill for a broader range of releases and bigger scales.

On another note, I don't know if its been mentioned before, it seems MPC have secured the license F Anderson Industries to make models of things in the UFO. First release is the SHADO Mobile due out around Q3 this year (and yes, I've got it on pre-order), the rumour mill says the future may hold Moonbase Interceptors, SkyDiver 1, the Lunar shuttle and mothership and possibly the SHADAir tranport plane - and Strakers car.
Personally I dream of a 1:1 of Gabrielle Drake as Lt Peters with the purple moon hair and silver moonbase suits....

Never a truer word.
I must have had close to 10 'Must Buys' in the last 18 months and I have only managed to hold off due to the fact I cant justify the purchases due to not spending enough time building what I already have. I've developed a fear of just adding to the stash and thus adding to the pressure whenever I have felt I am neglecting the hobby.
Thankfully that seems to have passed now and I am back enjoying the hobby with multiple kits on the go and different types.
