Hi guys!
Hope you all had a Wonderfull Christmas time and that santa gave you all lots of modelling goodies!

Time to do another small update.
I was thinking and thinking If I should add a tree to this base or not....
I decided to add one, to give this base a little more depth. (and Coen was looking forward to it.. )

Now there are a lot of after market trees available, but I don't like spending money if I can make my own.
I know,,, I'm Dutch... Cheap b4sterd..

How do I make a tree then? Well, I can use a root from a tree or bush, but i'm living in a city and I do not want to go to the forest right now, so I make one out of wire. This is going to be an oak tree in the winter, so without leaves.
I can make pine trees too, I will do a video on that sometimes...

Step one..
I twist the wires together to make the base shape of the tree.



Then I twist some smaller wires to make the branches and twigs.
Also I begin to twist "leukoplast" around the tree. I do not know how it's called in English, but it is some sort of band aid on a roll to fix medical gauze . This is necessary to let the paper (step 2) stick to the tree.



Step two... Using toilet paper (I prefer clean ) and wallpaper glue, making paper mache for the trunk.





When that's done and dried, things are getting messy. I use wood repair paste to cover the trunk and braches with.
If that is almost dry, I used an old toothbrush to make the bark. And when it's all still wet, I added small roots from a old dried out plant to make the twigs.



A quick dry fit to see where the tree would stand the best ..







Not really a tree yet , so time to paint it.
First up: Black primed.



Wood brown (ak interactive) base colour



Drybrushed with light brown and snow added. When adding the snow it is important to make it look like the wind is coming from one direction. So the snow would stick to one side of the tree. Here the wind is blowing from the East.
This is how the tree turned out.



And with the Sd.Kfz 7/1 added, this tree is finished....







I think it turned out ok......
Owh yeah...almost forgot. The wide indicators kept breaking off, so I replaced hem by straight pins. They need to be painted

Instead of using paper mache you can also use airclay and after that use the wood repair.

Final update This year!!
I'm just finished painting the crew members.
I had a realy hard time to paint the white uniforms...
I started with light grey, and slowly added more off white colour with each layer.

The figures are Tamiya 1972 tool. Old, but nice. Some mould errors that I could not avoid, but I'm happy with the result.

Here are some pics of the crew members. I hope the details are visible, for I find it hard to take photo's of white objects....













Dry fitted the figures on the model. Added a air recognising flag and some ammo. But there is more detailing to do, and that will be done next year when I reveal this model.

Frans I waiting now for a new photos of this set - evidently in day neutral light .For me electric light lying nuances, colours - Dio will be better in natural light. Just do it , and gieve Dio into Land Gallery my Buddy

Hope you all had a great New year!

So it's time to close this build thread now.
I'm Finished, and took some photo's.
And as AchtungPanzer requested, I took most pics in daylight, and I will post some of them in the land gallery.

I loved building this old tool kit (1972) straight out of the box.
I tried to put in all my magic to make this kit look nice. I am a big fan of aftermarket stuff, for I think it makes a model much more realistic, but I wanted to prove that you can make a OOB model realistic too...

Thanks to all who followed this build, and thank you guys for all nice comments!

I feel Markus has said it for me!! He knows me so well....

All I can do now is repeat what others have already said...OOB build, using nothing but supplied kit parts and a little artistic licence and a smidge of scratch work has made this kit shine!!
Frans sir you rock dude...I know the tracks were rubbish but the real skill is in the correcting and hiding of kit errors and build flaws...
More claps and bows I think...
