Not my current workbench, but like Scott I'm building a new house currently and this is my first rough plan for the hobby room in the basement.
Moving date is around April next year, but you can never start planning too early. ;-)

We're indeed building out of bricks. ;-)

Here's a photo from a while ago. Although that doorway is facing north-ish, I hope to get at least a bit of natural light in that room. On that photo the spraybooth outlet is not there yet, just indicating as a point of reference. ;-)
Image

And a more current view. The doorway is down there behind that dirt.

That is a great layout. I would only add a couch, tv, display case and bookcase if it was mine.

Yeah, it's pretty amazing to see the variety of spaces that people work with. I'm newly back at it, but I thought I throw my little corner of the family room out there. Here it is, it's not much but it's mine. I'm only on my second model and I'm already running out of space...

Thanks, there's still a bit of wiggling room storage-wise, but ultimately my space is limited to about half the room, the other half belongs to my wife. ;-)
I'm much more concerned with comfortably large working surfaces and tools/supplies storage.

Latest addition to the shed.

Got it yesterday, but couldn't test it out until tonight after work.

My old one was leaking air the whole time and didn't have a reserve tank on so was constantly starting up every 45 seconds running for 15 seconds then repeating!

Question for the folks on this thread. Has anyone built a bench that is designed to be used while standing? I've been reading a lot about how sitting is the new smoking and not good for you. I'm thinking that it would be good to have a bench surface on which I could work while standing. Of course, my main bench and spraybooth are designed to be used sitting and I have a chair on castors that I use to shuttle between both. I was thinking about building either a box to sit on an existing bench surface the top of which I'd use to assemble models or a freestanding bench on castors that I could store against a wall when not in use. Anyone done anything like that? How far off the ground would you think the surface should be? I'm a little under 6 feet tall and the surface height might relate to each person's individual height. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you want to stand for health reasons bear in mind that occupations that stand as part of the job have a high incidence of varicose veins.

But only if you do all your work standing exclusively. I guess it would be healthier to switch between sitting and standing instead of doing only one or the other.

Had one of these for a time at work. I'd stand for a bit, then maybe lean back a bit onto the high chair to rest a little. Wasn't bad, though I also didn't get to stay there for too long most days so I couldn't say what an 8 hour day would be like.

Thanks Digger,

When the wife and I bought the house I immediately commandeered half the garage for my work shop. Built a wall, built my bench and moved all my equipment in. Fridge to keep the "beverages" cold, XM radio and I was in business.

hi guys
recently single so I can do whatever I want.
my main work area is in my kitchen, I have a solid core door on top of some shelving units. on my left i have a shelf with a tool box on top, some of my stash underneath.
Image
the next space is where i build, it's the left side of the bench.
Image
on the right side i mask. hand paint, and decal.
Image
oh one thing i have a small problem with small jars of paint.
to my right i have some overflow.
Image
next is my sanding and weathering bench.
Image
i ran out of room for my paint booth "really wanted it vented outside, could not pull it off in the kitchen, so to the living room we go.
and yes i know about my problem with small bottles.
Image
so ther you have it the confessions of a small bottle addict, oh one other thing it's never this neat, just getting ready for my first group build, i'm sure by the end of it i'll be working i six square inches.
thanks for helping to enable my problems
bob
ps
not very good with tech stuff. i know the pics are messed up, trust me you don't won't how much time this has taken me.
thanks for looking

Hi guys, haven't been on here for a while, moved into a new house in feb 16, my time has been taken up with getting all the diy done in the house. Finally got the house somewhere close to how the mrs wants it so now its my turn. Our new house has a half garage due to the kitchen extension, i cleared out all my tools and set about constructing my new mancave.

This is what i had to work with.
Image
Image
Image
The laminate floor was donated from a good mate of mine who took it up from his dining room.
Once the floor was down i got some kitchen base units and played about with the layout.ImageImage
Finally settled on a layout and got the worktops fitted.Image
Finally unpacked all my stuff.Image
Knocked up some paint storage.ImageImageImageImage
Even got enough space for a tv.
ImageNext step in to wire in the a lot of plug sockets, install some more lighting, somehow sort out the draughty garage door and paint the whole room white to brighten it up.
Im really chuffed how it is taking shape, long way to go but its getting there :th:
