Sounds like a big project.

Sounds exciting. Can I ask for details of the 1/16 figures please? I'm toying with adding personnel to my various 1/16 vehicles in the stash so I'm interested in what's out there :th:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

This box of bits turned up for me this week
Image

Leaving aside my obvious excitement at receiving so much bubblewrap, one set of bits is supposed to end up looking like this (which will be added to my project for the figure GB)
Image

And the other bits will look like this

    Stokesy,

When it comes to 1/16 figures I look around at all modeling retailers including the regular on-line hobby shops, Ebay, and AliExpress. Years ago I built many of the Tamiya and Dragon assembly kits but I find that while good they do not have quite the level of detail of the resin offerings. Also when looking at what was offered then versus the selection now, most all of them today are in resin (because of accuracy and manufacturing price).

I also found that depending on the type of figure your looking for will at times determine what choices are available. So what have I purchased? Sometimes Verlinden (pricey for what you get and newer sculptures are a little more detailed), other times Jeff Shiu (good selection, especially in WW2 German figures), and others from Andy's Hobbies (not sure who he gets them manufacturered through, also pricey). If I had to pick one source I would go to AliExpress. Their vendors also sell on Ebay and independently, but AliExpress normally offers the best price, even when including tax and shipping (depending on your currency exchange rate). The majority of their figures they sell come from Asia or Europe. Many, have high quality features, are accurate, and require minimal clean-up or putty, etc.

Word of caution though, I've seen figures on AliExpress that are direct copies of other manufacturers. I've heard through numerous sources that this has been an issue in Asia for many years (unauthorized copies at a cheaper price). So look carefully at your choices.I personally try not to steal business from our legitimate hobby vendors, even if the owners price is higher. If I cannot locate the product from legit figure creators, than it is most likely one if the Asian originals and I would then buy it on AliExpress.

I've also found figures from Ukraine and Croatia to be very well sculpted and reasonable. They sell independently, in many on-line hobby stores, on Ebay, and sometimes on AliExpress.

I hope this helps in your quest for 1/16 figures, good luck!

    Ben

I got lucky and picked this up at a good discount...$65 pp

    Image

Checking off that all the contents were indeed there and found that a few different sprues have the same aphabet letters so that reminds me so much of Dragon. I can't find any reference to Dragon at all, yet some sprues have raised letters such as A,B,F etc and others have the new cut out of said letters. I wonder if this is a part rehash of older kits.

Couldn't help myself. The local hobby store put up some of their Bolt Action stuff for 50% off. I was basically losing money by not buying it. In a fun twist of fate, I got some good reference photos for a Universal Carrier last weekend. I'll post them up in the reference section when time allows.

LOTS of gold foil for the LEM leg & pad plus a new bottle of masking fluid as the humbrol Maskol had become unuseable.

Whilst the postie delivered this to complete the meatball shelf (until I have the room - and funds - to add a Betty and a Sally):

Since I'm new here I included the additions from both an August rummage find and day before yesterday's mail delivery.
I already used the drill to locate, drill and attach some grab handles on the armoured command post car under construction.

Worked fine, yesterday and today on hard styrene and rubber tracks. I actually bought the kit for the drills as I had gaps in my sizes. I will have occassion to use the saws, too.

Noce kit, shame about the extra charges. It was great here when we didn't have to pay the 10% gst, but the buggers couldn't leave it alone. Not surprising though with the way they waste money hand over fist and always it's the poor slob on the end of the line that pays.

Speaking of wasting money

        Image

Really nice looking....accuracy who knows :?

Oh and I almost forgot I grabbed this at the local supermarket for $30. Not bad I thought and I had been thinking I needed a small vac to clean up the desk area. Get into the small spaces quickly and it works well. Enough charge for 15min and It has a clear dust catcher so I can see where that missing part is :D :D

I picked up this for my desert Rolls Royce ( Meng) as it comes with the wheels that were fitted after the war ended.
They are very nicely done. I used my magnifier and the resolution is so good with it only being slightly noticeable on the spokes and that is only because they are so fine.

My birthday present to myself arrived today:
          Image

Checked the contents - and the instructions and decals were missing - so I contacted the Anderson Store and they are trying to source replacements for me.
Par for the course at the moment - got back from holiday last Thursday with a stinking cold and on my birthday an infected jaw made itself rather painfull present!! :(

Checked the contents - and the instructions and decals were missing - so I contacted the Anderson Store and they are trying to source replacements for me.
Par for the course at the moment - got back from holiday last Thursday with a stinking cold and on my birthday an infected jaw made itself rather painfull present!! :(
A awful combination a flue and a tooth problem I'm guessing and they probably will wait until the flue clears up and just administer antibiotics until then.Get well soon.

            That's a interesting box art.

Had to have an emergency dental.appointment at 20:45 tonight. Been prescribed penecillin to deal with the jaw infection and a tooth needs to come out. But they can't do it for 6- 8 months sue to the heart issues in August this year. Oh what fun!!!!

Ahh the joys of tooth pain.
Couple days and the antibiotics will kick in. Eat some yogurt to keep your tummy happy
Combo of Tylenol (acetominophen) and Advil (ibuprofen) will cut your pain down and reduce swelling
Rinse with warm salt water….1/2 tsp salt, cup of warm water especially after meals. Trying to keep infection down this way
Extra pillow under your head so less blood pooling to your noggin at night
Yes, ice pack over area jaw area for ten min max with a cloth so not direct skin contact
Usually wait six months after heart issues as that is period usually have a second attack.
              Hope it settles down

              found this on ebay.

The sabre is 1/48 and the detail up parts are resin from Jaguar hobby.

Looks nice and I'll aluminium foil the fuselage.

Cheers Scott!! Currently knocking back Paracetemol and Ibuprofen at the moment. Knocks the pain back for maybe 1 to 2 hours. Never thought about the salt water, will start giving that a try. And the extra pillow. :)

While not technically received by the postman (YET), I'm so excited about this new release I just had to tell someone!

                  Remember this fella?

                  Image

Well, Young Miniatures have just announced a companion piece release. Private Ryan anyone?

Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Got these little burrs which ought to come to good use. Maybe opening slots for Airfix model stands. Then a small selection of Badger's Modelflex and Minitaire acrylic paints. I use them quite a bit. I have no problem with them except tip dry which I am experimenting to ameliorate. So, I have found that distilled water and glycerine does a good job for base coat work but doesn't quite "cut" it for details especially those colors we know have larger pigment size. So I have tried Createx's 4012 thinner and it did better but still not giving results I've seen others get with this brand. I have 4011 and Mission Model's thinner to try. Then maybe go out and buy Createx's newest 4021. TBD.

                  Nice bundle of goodies.
I have bought burr's and find the double cut ones are easier to control and the ceramic type even better as the cutting teeth can be much finer.
Recently I've been using `Josonja's Retarder medium and flow medium with my life colour paint. Which have a rep for tip dry and I'm having a level of success spraying through a 0.3mm tip, but I had to increase the AB pressure to 30psi. The other draw back with the retarder is it takes much longer to dry now and a few hrs out in the sun helps a lot. No doubt I'll have to tinker with the recipe, but it's encouraging if you have the time to wait for it to properly dry.

Picked up a few replacement bits online and some paint from a local War Hammer shop that's just opened. He's not the cheapest for sure , but it is handy for those odd colours.

Been a bit quiet on the kit buying lately which is probably a good thing, but then these 2 popped up.
The Protze has been on my hit list for years and the same guy was selling this bike as well. At 25 it wasn't too bad a buy and bikes always go well in Diorama's.

I experienced a birthday with a zero on the end a couple of weeks ago and my team mates at work unexpectedly presented me with this
