Thank you thank you
Ya so far so good...still plenty of opportunity to stuff it up
I am trying to keep the paint layers relatively thin here so we don’t lose detail or fill the panel lines
Ferrari snobs will say “ you could see the carbon fibre through the paint it was so thin on these cars as it was done to save weight”
YA well that is ridiculous to try to replicate

So why bother with the paint if they got a twitch from looking at carbon

I did that with mine

but the way I ‘achieved’ it was to lay down a orange peel from hell finish instead of a silky smooth one like yours! Looks great, are you still going with a clear blue over the top? Or should I just mind my own business and see what happens?!

Nope all questions and comments are welcome
Yes a Tamiya clear blue.
Similar to this A/C Cobra I have been working on, but the Ferrari has the chrome silver underneath; the Cobra is aluminum silver underneath.

Thank you gentlemen for your kind comments
Moving along, I took a step back to the engine compartment.
Installing gloss black boxy vents onto the frame, my mind asked....so what are those for??? There were no connections or hoses or nothing and they point out laterally
A little (lot actually) research shows tubes connect from the turbos up to these vent boxes. A bit more shows there is a filter in there.
Then I found a computer schematic that laid it out perfectly
So why would Fujimi not make a tube to connect this up?? Bizzare
Out come the scratch build supplies and after testing a few materials.....
styrene: nope can’t bend it in all dimensions needed
aluminum with copper inside: nope it breaks and shows bends
Brass....ya good luck
I settled on a larger diameter copper wire with a white plastic wrapping scavenged from the house build
Hand bent with dental pliers and some larger pliers when needed. The stuff is flexible, but certainly not floppy
Before tubes made:

After tubes made:
I added a black styrene circular connection at the bottom of the box as well for ease of hose attatchment
Now to install them and detail the hose connections

This photo of a restoration/modification of an F40 shows that these are definitely air intakes and filters for the turbos.
Someone has swapped out the boxes for two red cylinder air filters

Thanks gents...onward we go.
Seatbelt Saturday. No PE in this 1/16 scale, so had to make do and make my own four point harness
Watch parts for the circular release, dental polish strips for the belts, hockey tape for the shoulder cushion, cut Eduard PE fret for buckles and some Ferrari decals from the stash as Fujimi decals bite the bone hard

No problem, use it all the time
Hockey tape is great...it is a fabric weave, so can be used to duplicate fabrics.
I crazy glued the back edge of this tape on the seatbelts just so it didn’t undo

Weather been really crappy last weeks , rainy and wet. Now back to work so limited spare time that never matches with sun.
Hoping the weekend brings some warmer weather to paint.
I have a different 2k to try out and think I want that on the Ducati motorcycle first before the F40..so will work on the Duck for a while longer
This is not dead and NOT off the desk, yet

Finally took some steps to finishing this off...just haven’t been in the mood and too hot an summery outside
F40 door first coats of clear blue over silver and some touch ups on the Cobra blue too. I got more dust onto the Cobra than paint!

The Ferrari doesn’t photo well in these lights, it looks cool. Will get it a deeper blue with subsequent coats
More to come soon....

First two full layers on the bod
Not bad, some dust and stuff
Don’t want to go as dark blue as the Cobra, just so it stays a bit more blue/chrome

I have the Splash 2k. It is a two part system 3:1 mix base to catalyst
So pretty easy and works well, been using it over the last year with no problems
Before that it was Gravity 2k that was a three part system...base, solvent and catalyst. It was fine but more bottles to mess with and was smellier for some reason

Thanks Scott, I have tried a few different 2ks but not the Splash one. I used to use Gravity, I found it a bit thick but was quite happy until I think I had a dodgy batch which I had to strip twice off one shell and once off another. I switched to Zero Diamond which I find thinner and quicker drying and haven't looked back (having said that I do like Mr Hobby GX100 for simplicity and I find it polishes up as good as 2k). Can't wait to see how your shell looks when you 2k it.

Good choice.

I find the whole car painting thing fascinating. You use materials I have never used (and am unlikely too, lets be honest) and the results are amazing.

Yes it is a Pita to try and get it all perfect with no dust specks or runs
The 2k clear is marvellous to get shine
You tank folk work wonders the opposite direction making things muddy and well worn

Much appease to the paint gods, I have NOT muffed up another car body
The clear has set and done well. It is not perfect by any stretch. This is a weird paint job and quite experimental for me.
The blue looks different from altered angles and with various lighting. Makes it interesting.
This isn’t a scratch infront of the F40 logo, just the light reflection and showing more of the chrome undertones. Weird paint job.
