Thanks Chief! No painting just yet... Working on the Karl möser and got to finish the PE works for this Marder.
But! I ordered some PE placers at Ultimate, so hoping to test them out while replacing those handles for PE ones....

I've got a small update for you guys. I'm back working, so didn't had much modelling time this week, but it's still progress

First up: The piece of wood that goes under the jack.
Here's the kit part that is to small moulded for the real block would be much bigger:

I cut a piece of balsa wood (1x1 cm) and added the Photo Etch parts to it.
And I gave the PE placers from Ultimate a try out (I really wanted to test them) by placing a very small winged nut in the middle...

And yeah... the PE placers are working awesome
I had a placer with a sticky tip, but when I touched accidently the CA glue while adding a piece I cloud throw way that placer. With the Ultimate placer, you just sharpen the tip, and its sticky again. Great product

And here's the block of wood on the vehicle:

Added the jack on top of the toolbox. It's fastened with handles.

Then it was time to detail the towing pin:

Cut out the pin, and made another pin by stretching sprue.
Drilled a small hole for the new pin, and added a small PE chain.

And glued it on the vehicle rear.

Made the towing cable, and dry fitted it on the holders.

Completely reworked the notek light... A bit to much glue, but the little bugger would not stick... grrr...
And as you can see, I made a start at the Friul tracks. You just can't beat the detail on them! Just one and a half track remaining to put together...

All together so far..

This build is already epic! Thanks for showing the process step by step. I can't believe all the tiniest details. I have only worked with PE parts once so far, and knowing how difficult and fiddly these buggers can be... Incredible.

I think this is going to be an R2D2 to go with Paul's C3PO Tank build from last year..
We could maybe enter both in a "heavy metal" build competition...
So much PE parts here its unbelievable.....
So glad you have a magnifying headlamp and teeny tweezers and PE pickup sticks...
Most of mine would be in the carpet monster by now!
Keep up the superb build work Frans, and keep sharing with ISM dude!!

Can see the topic already: "Heavy Metal SIG" Any model, any era, loads of PE. The reveal section would be a shiny one.
No paint or weathering, just all metal!

Just realised. ... Have to replace all handels at the side armor too! Thinking of buying resin ones. Got PE replacements but those are missing a plate where the handle is mounted on, and they would be a nightmare to glue on. ..

I ordered some resin Tie-Down Cleats for it, should come in this week.
I want to replace the plastic strip thingies that is now on the armour plates that suppose to be Tie-downs...
I think replacing these will make a whole lot of difference

There are replacements in the PE set I got, but even these are horrible, and almost impossible to glue onto the armour.
last thing to do are the tools and clasps and then she's ready to prime..

It's been a while, very busy at work, but I managed to do a bit of work on the Marder.

I wanted to replace the moulded tie-down cleats on the armour plates. This because the moulded ones are not more then plastic strips and in no way close to looking like handles. Now, I did had replace ones in my PE set, but those were missing a plate where the handle was welded on. And It would be almost impossible to glue them on...
So I ordered resin cleats. These are awesome, and much more easier to glue on.

Here are the moulded plastic strips ones...

And here are the real ones. These cleats were used to tie down the winter tarp. And in summer to tie down a camo net,

And here's how she looks after replacing the moulded with the resin cleats.

The gun on the turret bar is a gun from my scrap box. It's supposed to be there, but it did not came with the kit. The mount was in the PE upgrade set, so I added the gun. It will be repainted

So far this update guys!
Hope to do some more work on her this weekend. All hat remains now, is the tools and some clamps and clasp making...

Oh yeah... The cleats are nice too. Better than the kit offerings to be sure. A tarp hanging from a few of those with some lead strip as a tied own would look...... Mmmmmmmm.
They're screaming to have something tied to them. Hahaha.

Hello friends!
Thanks for tuning in again!

The last couple of days I was a bit struggling with the PE tool clamps from the Aber upgrade set.
Each clamp contained 3 parts to be folded, and I just couldn't get the hang of it.
Here's a pic of the Aber clamps.

I was wondering why the did not make the clamp out of 2 parts like Griffon models has done.
Wait a minute.. I have PE tool clamps from Griffon

Now these are a lot better to fold, and the PE is thicker, so it does not break so easily.
Here are the tools and clamps added. The golden clamps are Griffon, the silver Aber.
I'm cooking with gas now!

Now, this can only mean that I can make the next announcement...

All Photo Etch Finished!

There is a headphone planed, but that is going to be done after painting the Marder.
All that's left to do now, is constructing the second track from Fruil.
After that, she's ready to paint!

So here she is in her shiny metal coat.

The towing cable at the rear is hold by straps. I didn't closed the straps just yet, for I'm painting the cable separately and put it back on later.

So next time you will see here, she's got her shoes on for the final build pic, and she will be ready for painting.

This was a cheap and simple kit indeed, but all PE did her justice I think.
All upgrades cost more than the kit. Could buy 4 kits of it... lol

well i have the dragon marder but i have all the pe sets from voyager and a aber barrel
but it to see how it goes and if i like working with that much pe
looks.like a nice kit it has a full interior in it
but i got this because i have a befehls version aswell and that one is missing a sprue
so i will build the regular with the pe and the other with the leftover parts

The Marder is one of my favorite vehicles together with the Tiger 1...
Never build a Dragon Marder though, think that's going to be the next one!
Good luck with your Marder, the photo etch sets from Voyager are really nice to work with

That Tiger Paul made is indeed awesome too, maybe we should hook up his Tiger with my Marder (that means marten in English) and see what offspring a Tiger and Marten would have...

Now for the painting, that would be another challenge I think!
