#19 The Flying Brick

Three pages deep in my posts and I have been avoiding her with other projects. I even pulled a Porsche off of the death shelf to work on yesterday.
Will make a push to get primer and paint on this week, but not promising myself anything
I want to have her finished this month to focus on the display base in August
Hockey may get in the way of that

No you have to get this done somehow. Your the leading light for this Sig ..the founder. Doesn't look good if you don't finish. The Porsche can wait a bit longer ...you know it can. I'm dragging my heels to my friend, but I'm sure we can both get it done. I'm just telling my self Just get one thing done every night and I'v got to start painting in earnest and I really don't like this part yet I do like the apparent transformation that happens right in front of my eyes in seconds. Yet I still don't like doing it.....strange. I'm sure once it's finished you will appreciate the achievement if nothing else.

Ok she has been back up on the bench getting her seams filled...oooh that sounds kinda naughty

Will do an initial primer spray probably on the weekend and see how the gaps are

Oh dear, what have I started

I was lucky to start sanding and re-filling the seams as my plastic putty tube was in the drawer with the lid off the nozzle...only some dried up and was easily cleared
Otherwise when I came to put wings and such on, I would have been hooped

I am trying to figure out how the heck to paint this large lump. It is too big for my desk and paint booth once wings are on.
So I think paint separate, then join Wings?? Then touch up the seams and re-paint those areas ?

I will have exactly the same problem with the Lanc when I get round to painting it. I have an eye on a new booth to replace my tin pot widdly one but I really don't want to fork out the wedge for it just yet.

Cheating and using more dental tools....diamond razor strip

I am opening up the engine cowlings a touch so they look a bit better...and to avoid priming

Tentative plan is I go Ultimate black underside and olive top for primers, then a bit of upper mottling and then the AK camos

I need a bit of knowledge.
Is there any dental tools that could be used to easily tidy up a canopy and get into tight corners if possible. I need to polish out a glue stain. I shook when I should have shimmied.

I notice online polishing strips and burrs with lots of nylon hairs and such, but I thought it is best to ask a learned character such as yourself.Before launching the credit card.

Indeed.
So I have been writing a bit and then adding the rivets back using white glue dots from a toothpick ...it isn’t perfect but it will work.

While the Porsche is drying from clear, I have re-seamed the spots that the first prime showed

It is hard to keep the dimension of the glue drop to match the little blips Airfix made

Been researching paint call outs and schemes and this was a funny quote about an Italeri Sterling build

Once the canopy masks are removed it reveals a wonderful large cockpit interior which looks really good.I have to say that I find the rest of this aircraft rather unattractive, the kind of aviating device that only flies because it is so ugly the earth repels it! However, this kit is good and a definite improvement over the ancient Airfix kit.

I was all excited to get some primer on the wings and fuselage last night...and then found a spot I missed sanding the putty...and then found another seam..and then found another freaking sink hole...and now have to re-sand and re-make some rivets.

So into Ultimate black and Olive primer she goes

I have a little 5 day holiday starting now

I know I work too hard and deserve more time off, but hey you take what you can get

So hopefully I can push to finish this beast of a plane off

So I have a thing vs Vallejo, though I have not really used it much...mostly reputation, others had problems with it so there is a shadow in my mind and I have avoided that paint brand.

I got a RAF bomber colours set and thought it was AK, but it was Vallejo Air...they are very similar and the Lanc had me suckered.

Tonight I sprayed her belly Vallejo black over Ultimate black primer and it is gorgeous. Handled perfectly, good smooth coverage and easily cleaned.
No clogging, no trouble with my airbrush (H/S Ultra)

I did a little test on a sprue and then took the tape after it, no problems. So the rest of the fuselage will get the Vallejo black too

After Somebody screwed up and grabbed the interior green and sprayed it last night

the topside now has her proper dark green coat with some slight variations and awaits the dark earth camo pattern.
I got the wheel assemblies done and flat spotted the tires to show weight

My plan is to do the camo brown, let it dry and then respray the bottom with the Vallejo black...that way not masking the black Vallejo at all, though all of my tape tests have shown Vallejo Air is fine taped over ...until I am working on the model, then it will explode all the paint off with the first pull of tape

Heated an area over a candle flame until it softened then squished it down on a glass plate...and prayed a bit before I started

Alright, a Sunday night at the bench and I got his Lunk to here

Engines are glued on so I can do the wing camo pattern in one pass...the props just pop off.
I touch-up painted around the three turrets and popped the top glass off to repair an unseated gun. All in all the turrets survived ok surprisingly.
Other bits of touch-up paint around cockpit and the rear door .
Next will be wing camo, glue wings and tail in and then start working the glass
